Yea. Well, he was a sprinter before then so the explosive power from that certainly helped. His 40 meter dash was elite, but his top speed was lacking. Started training for Olympic lifting at 18.

I heard on the TV coverage of the of the Oly lifting meets was that coaches will often recruit the kids with good jumping ability to start training Oly lifting, because it shows good explosive movement potential.

Not sure about how he got started though, but I'm sure the Chinese Sports Ministry or whatever scours the country for potential Olympic athletes.

He doesn't even really look like he's straining all that much. When I think of how my face looks when I'm pressing 140lbs or so, it's bright red and I look like I'm about to cry/am getting raped. He wouldn't even use it as a warm up.
