You often see violence between Sunnis and Shiites not necessarily just because they have a religious difference but often because one groups has more political or economic power than the other. Sunnis usually don't go out and kill Shiites just because they believe Abu Bakr should've succeeded Mohammed rather than Ali or some other difference between them and therefore they must die and vice versa.

Of course it's easier for Abdul McFailure to kill the guy next door than fly over to a civilised country and kill innocent civilians there. I don't really know how to argue this point other than the fact that if the Quran is so easily manipulated into making so many people believe jihad/suicide bombing/mass muder is rewarded by allah, then the book is clearly at fault.
