Disagree on robbery. Been mugged twice and both times it was junkies. They were obviously in a super bad place (and I honestly didn't think they would have used the knife), and while they certainly deserved punishment, death/life is a tad extreme.

And we mess up way too much. Not a fan of potentially killing innocents; death is final.

A dude finds out his wife has been cheating on him with his best friend and delivers a royal ass whooping? He gets a trophy, not jail time. A drunk runs over my child and I can catch up to him? Sometimes justice should be delivered outside the law.

As much as I emotionally agree with the death penalty, I don't on a practical level from the justice system. It doesn't act as a deterrent. Stats back that up. Until that changes, I don't agree with the govt putting someone to death. And I'd rather see 10 guilty men go free than 1 innocent man be put to death.

Yeah, it does. It's a crime which involves violence. I'm pretty sure in any, or most states, you can press charges against someone for sucker punching you.

Some economists did a study showing it didn't, but then soem others did one that looked at the difference between states where it was enforced quickly and others where there was a long appeal process with a good chance of getting off the hook - surprise, surprise - when it was actually enforced and done swiftly, it did deter those crimes.


However, there is also evidence showing that the chance of being caught and punished deters criminals more than the severity of the punishment.

To me, I would prefer that crime be punished by the attacker working in a private prison to repay the victim directly. If someone beat the snot out of me and took my money, I would not want them dead. I would want them to work for half a decade and pay me off a good sum of money.

I would however defend myself and even possibly kill him myself if I had to during the attack if I was able to do so.

No, it doesn't. People press charges for innumerable reasons; that doesn't change the definition of aggravated assault. Work on your reading comprehension then get back to me.

The definition of "serious bodily injury" is more intuitive. It means bodily injury that "creates a substantial risk of death or that causes death, serious permanent disfigurement, or protracted loss or impairment of the function of any bodily member or organ."

In other words, just punching a guy isn't aggravated assault. Punch him and cause severe damage? You bet it's aggravated assault. Inb4 criminals should be rehabilitated at MY expense.

I don't agree because in many, cases the person sent to death could be innocent. Of course I get mad and want to kill them when I read about raped, child abuse, etc, but that's not a civilized way to do things.
