    Does weight lifting stunt growth

I just turned 15 yesterday and am 5"6 1/2. I wanted to lift more weights but I am worried that it will stunt my growth. Is that at all true, or a myth. Is there any truth to it.

    Short answer: NO.

Though, you could've used the search button or even Google.com for a more detailed answer.

It might actually help your growth, just do moderate weight, don't do 1rm squats. That could lead to injuries and stunt your growth since your bones are still malleable. It might help you grow due to it increasing hgh and testosterone. If you also do a lot of chins, that could help. Swim a lot if you want to grow more. Also never be at a caloric deficit, and get 9-10 hr/sleep since you're still young. IMO, you can start really pushing yourself when you turn 20, since your growing is done, and your bones have matured.

Yeah, I found out the hard way.

Before leaving for the gym, I was 6ft 4", then I curled in the squat rack and when I got home I was 6ft 0".

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing if you lift too heavy overhead at too young of an age (like 8 years old) it POSSIBLY could.

I don't know the real answer, but would love to.

no, weight lifting does not stunt growth. There is no medical correlation between the two, in fact, it may do the opposite, and benefit you, like the5thhorseman said.

No science to support that popular belief, in fact there are scientific studies that have shown heavy weight lifting promotes bone growth
