    Am I Overtraining?

Hello, I am a 15 year old rising sophomore athlete. I am a 4 sport athlete that literally has no time off (Fall is football, Winter is basketball, Spring is baseball, and Summer is track).

My weekly schedule this summer is something like this:

    Monday:
Morning: Team organized weight training and speed and agility
Afternoon: Basketball and Baseball specific workout
Evening: Upper Body workout on my own

    Tuesday:
Morning: 7 on 7 football with my team (mostly running)
    Afternoon: Basketball and Baseball Specific
Evening: Lower Body workout on my own

    Wednesday:
Morning: Team organized weight training and speed and agility
    Afternoon: Basketball and Baseball Specific
    Evening: Football skills training

    Thursday:
Morning: Team organized weight training and speed and agility
    Afternoon: Basketball and Baseball Specific
Evening: Upper Body workout on my own

    Friday:
    Morning: Off
    Afternoon: Basketball and Baseball Specific
Evening: Lower Body workout on my own

During the weekends I usually give myself rest when I do not have a track meet.

The team organized lifting isn't as intense as the workouts I do on my own, but they do leave my pretty sore. I am a JV Quarterback and am working my ass off this summer to get a varsity spot as a safety. My main question is am I overtraining? Is it bad that I am working this hard? And if not, is there anything else I can implement into my week?

    Thanks and best regards

Overtraining is a pretty subjective word. The idea behind the term is that you stress your body so much that it cannot recover. Basically then, overtraining can only be viewed on an individual basis. Simply saying "this is how much I do - am i overtrainging?" isn't enough to determine if you are overtraining.

Therefore, you need to look at yourself. How do you feel? Are you tired a lot? Do you feel excessively achey? Is your hunger gone as well?

If you are consistently feeling this way then you may be overtraining and should consider ways to limit your exercise volume or improve your recovery mechanisms

Are you getting better? If so, you're not overtraining.

Like everyone so far has said your training regime will not help anyone determine if you are overtraining, the amount of work required to hit an overtrained state differs greatly between individuals. The only way you can tell is by comparing your week by week progress. If each week you are feeling more and more tired, your grip strength seems to be decreasing, you are plateauing, your recovery time is increasing etc. you are overtraining assuming everything else such as your diet and sleep is in check. As long as you are getting better and you don't feel as though your fitness is deteriorating you probably aren't overtraining, if you are making progress you have little to worry about.

When I was in high school my training schedule was over 35 hours a week of intense workout and specific sports training. Only you can determine if you're over-training. If you feel great, you're not always fatigued, etc, keep going! If you feel overwhelmed at all or you cant seem to recover from your training, take a day off for recovery every once in a while or drop some of your workload.
