    We went to another gym today. It was the second time I've done squats there. It is a "real" gym with legit powerlifting and strongman equipment. My first experience squatting there was pretty bad. Today was slightly better probably because I knew to reduce the weight quite a bit. My usual gym has mirrors that I use to make sure I'm centered under the bar correctly from left to right, check my elbows, etc. Guess what? Apparently I have become dependent upon the mirror. Take the mirror away and holy mind**** Batman. I was not prepared for that the first time squatting at this gym. At least I was this time. I did several sets today with low weight to get used to no mirror. I think it showed me I don't need to do a meet yet because this is how they are set up. I need more practice in this scenario. I also think I may switch the pins around if I can at my usual gym so I can squat NOT facing the mirror. I felt more comfortable by the end and I dont want to take a step back. I am curious if anyone else uses mirrors and if they have tried to go completely without after. If so did it take any adjusting?

    Did I mention this gym is in a garage with no a/c and it is in the 90's here?

    Nine sets of squats is a lot but I did the 9th even though everyone else was done at 8. I did not want to quit when I finally started to feel like I was starting to adjust and I wasn't too tired to get one more in.

    All have our off days, but 9 sets of squats isn't bad. I have always relied on the mirror when I do squats.

    Added 2 reps to the last set.

    DB incline presses: 3x10: 20, 25, 30
    Added 5# here.

    Cybex Incline Press- 4x10: 60, 70, 80, 90. Pretty nice machine; I like the angle.

    Seated preacher curls- 3x10- 55, 60, 65
    Holy heavy curls! Didn't know the bar was 35, not 25, so I braved it out!

    Hammer curls- 3x10: 20, 20, 25
    These got my biceps so pumped up! I was feeling that pump today with the Peak 400 and Con-Cret! I have never felt a pump like that after my bi workout before.

    Concentration curls- 3x10: 15, 15, 20
    Got that squeeze at the top!

    Cybex curl machine- 3x10: 40, 45, 50
    Liked this Cybex machine too.

    Seated calf raises- 4x12: 70

    2 new bench PR's- so exciting!
    Added a few reps and some more weight here and there but tough to judge because of different equipment. Was an incredible workout!
    Strong chest work! Congrats on the benching PR's!

    Squatting without a mirror takes some getting used to. You have to really focus on the "feel" of your positions. I'd keep it light and do more sets until you really feel comfortable and can push it. The thing about competing and any sports is that your technique has to be engrained. You think about it after a lift or throw etc..., but during your lift your only thinking about crushing pussy or w/e to lift the most you can. The technique of it all and the feel is just second nature.

    I think you can do more sets of squats because you are still in noobie stage more or less, you aren't recruiting all figers 100% like someone who is elite. Noobies can do more sets, because they haven't taught their bodies to give 100% in the lift yet.

    Second nature. That is what I don't think I have without the mirror. I'm trying to figure out how to stay away from squatting with it now. We don't go to this particular gym each time we squat because it is much farther away.

    I am glad to know this isn't out of the ordinary. It was a huge mind fuk. I felt pretty out of wack almost like my equilibrium was off.

    I'm used to squatting 8 reps and more recently 5 reps. Pyramiding up to one rep is very different. I feel like my endurance hasn't suffered yet but I think it will eventually. I also have a hard time saying "well this was a crappy session so I will just quit and go home." I have done that. No lie. More likely though I will think "I want to do just one more set to see if I can do better." Practice makes perfect right?

    I never use the mirror. I think that's tough to do. Supposed to look up at a spot on the wall; easier to keep your balance.

    For the most part I do look up. Especially on the way up. To say I don't ever look in the mirror anytime from start to finish.....no way I could say that. It's there.

    We went to another gym today. It was the second time I've done squats there. It is a "real" gym with legit powerlifting and strongman equipment. My first experience squatting there was pretty bad. Today was slightly better probably because I knew to reduce the weight quite a bit. My usual gym has mirrors that I use to make sure I'm centered under the bar correctly from left to right, check my elbows, etc. Guess what? Apparently I have become dependent upon the mirror. Take the mirror away and holy mind**** Batman. I was not prepared for that the first time squatting at this gym. At least I was this time. I did several sets today with low weight to get used to no mirror. I think it showed me I don't need to do a meet yet because this is how they are set up. I need more practice in this scenario. I also think I may switch the pins around if I can at my usual gym so I can squat NOT facing the mirror. I felt more comfortable by the end and I dont want to take a step back. I am curious if anyone else uses mirrors and if they have tried to go completely without after. If so did it take any adjusting?

    Did I mention this gym is in a garage with no a/c and it is in the 90's here?

    Nine sets of squats is a lot but I did the 9th even though everyone else was done at 8. I did not want to quit when I finally started to feel like I was starting to adjust and I wasn't too tired to get one more in.

    Ive always had a mirror. I can't imagine not having one. Kudos for pushing through and hitting that 9th set. That's a lot!

    Added 2 reps to the last set.

    DB incline presses: 3x10: 20, 25, 30
    Added 5# here.

    Cybex Incline Press- 4x10: 60, 70, 80, 90. Pretty nice machine; I like the angle.

    Seated preacher curls- 3x10- 55, 60, 65
    Holy heavy curls! Didn't know the bar was 35, not 25, so I braved it out!

    Hammer curls- 3x10: 20, 20, 25
    These got my biceps so pumped up! I was feeling that pump today with the Peak 400 and Con-Cret! I have never felt a pump like that after my bi workout before.

    Concentration curls- 3x10: 15, 15, 20
    Got that squeeze at the top!

    Cybex curl machine- 3x10: 40, 45, 50
    Liked this Cybex machine too.

    Seated calf raises- 4x12: 70

    2 new bench PR's- so exciting!
    Added a few reps and some more weight here and there but tough to judge because of different equipment. Was an incredible workout!
    Awesome on your new PR's!!!!!! There's more to come I'm certain. Love that you include the "squeeze" at the top of your concentration curls.
