It may be naive to assume the taller male can protect them but this is what instinctively what most females AND males believe about height. Its human nature to make these assumptions just as many people will assume large breasts and curvy hips means a female is fertile and or fit for childbirth even if its subconscious.

That implies that just because someone has equal training they have the same skills or fighting ability not true.

For thousands of years people had to hunt their food, and fight hand to hand with other humans/animals for survival, carry all their **** with them (following migration patterns of animals).
I'm sure women naturally evolved to be attracted to larger men because it increased the chances of survival for her and her offsprings.
But we aren't living in caves anymore. We have machines to lift stuff and we have guns! The bigger you are, the easier you are to kill because you're a bigger target. If we all started killing each other, the big guys would die first. I think eventually women would evolve to be attracted to smaller males because it increases the chances of survival.
