Stop recommending starting strength and strong lifts to noobs (srs)

Both rippletoe and mehdi don't know wtf they're talking about. I've done both and they're terrible programs.

Starting Strength is a mediocre strength program... but a good template. Add a few assistance lifts and it's fine.

You dumb kunts SS is not a routine for aesthetics. It's a routine for beginners to get as strong as possible, as fast as possible. Once you get strong, THEN you switch to a bodybuilding workout.

For bodybuilding, Layne Nortons PHAT is a much better program in my opinion. Or any other solid upper.lower split.

    Depends on goals...

Strength training primarily is different to a hypertrophy based program. Most of us here who just train for aesthetics and muscle don't necessarily need to use SS when starting out. A lot of the movements are very technical and a noob who's never lifted a weight in his life can't always cope with that.

Me myself, i started training at gyms when i was 18 and just smashed the machines until i felt i knew the movement patterns and was confident to use the free weights and had some muscle at least on my frame. Then i drifted onto primarily free weight routines.

But i think to use SS, for a noob lifter who's young and starting out, isn't always the best idea if he's just looking for dem aesthetics. Plenty of other ways. Even bodyweight ****gytime **** is still needed at the start of a lifters training life.

And yet newbs who just want to look good get told to do SS or 5x5 all the time. If you only care about aesthetics you are probably better off with a bro split or strength/hypertrophy hybrid.

A good routine that balances both strength and muscle building is a simple PUSH/PULL/LEGS/OFF split. Higher frequency for a beginner is usually better, I would even suggest an Upper/Lower split 2-3 times a week if his body was ready for it.

SS is good for strength but you should really be looking into a higher frequency bodybuilding program for most of your mass gains. I've seen people gain a decent amount of strength on SS but those mass gains aren't as noticeable.

    My 2 cents...
