OK, As per required.
My name is Simon and I'm 32. I've been very unmotivated and extremely lazy for far too long now, and this has led to me putting on far too much weight. So, a group of very good friends who have been trying to motivate me for some time now have decided on 1 last throw of the dice.
My current weight is around 300 lbs. (Final weigh in will be tonight)
They have said that if I can lose 6 stone in 1 year (starting from 1st June, 2013) then they will get together and pay me £5000 as a reward. (Obviously the real reward is losing the weight, and regaining my lost mojo). The money is just motivation.
The Forfeit: If I lose the bet by failing to shed 6 stone of weight within a 12 month period, I need to video myself destroying my computer and my mobile phone, the root of my problems, and upload it to youtube permanently. (Uncontrolled gaming is a bad for you )
The target I shall be aiming for is a weight loss of roughly 1 stone every 2 months.
This will be achieved through various exercises including but not limited to:
Cycling
Swimming
Kettle Bells
Walking (I am recovering from a torn achilles tendon so am some what limited in what I can do) - eg, can't play football or high impact running sports.
Gardening
Various insanity and PX90 work outs
Other gym exercises, including weights and cardio.
Obviously diet will play a huge part in my attempts also, so I will be reducing my intake of the cardinal sins, such as crisps, starch, carbonated drinks, fruit juice, bread, cakes and other junk. Instead I aim on consuming more high quality meats, and vegetables and drinking mostly water / green tea etc. Alcohol will also be severely limited, although as I don't drink too much this won't be too much of a compromise.
I shall be updating this thread daily for the first week, and there after, every fortnight. I shall be including diet and exercise activities, and any meaningful weight loss and pics.
The bet is won as soon as I lose 6 stone assuming I do it within 12 months.
I lose if I go longer than 2 months without losing 1 stone (14 lbs). If I lose more than 1 stone in any one month I can use that additional weight loss for future months.
Tips, motivation and any constructive feedback is welcome.
Wish me luck.
Ty, Simon

Also:
The forfeit will be done topless as my friend puts it, he wants to see a fat Simon breaking his stuff. - He has no confidence that I can pull this off, on my past track record.
Also, I have a ridiculously unhealthy computer games habit, so my friends are doing me a favour rather than just randomly getting me to destroy my stuff for entertainment.

<-------------- one of simons friends organising this bet.
Simon has 2 huge problems in his life : his weight and THE most computer game addicted person I've ever met in my life. Any source of a computer game is a problem.
So the idea behind the bet is he will win in one of two ways: weight loss, or computer games loss. And as the bettor I get the entertainment factor if he does lose, from the youtube video, at least.
The bet begins tomorrow 1st June 2013. Just to clarify, simon can only win the bet if he loses 6 stone, but he can lose the bet if he doesnt lose 1 stone in any of the 2 months along the way. So he could fail by the 2nd month,4th month,6th month etc by falling behind too much. If he loses weight faster at the front end of the year though, he can use the extra lbs as a buffer if he falls behind a little later on. So if between month 6 and 8, he only loses 9lbs, this is OK so long as he had a 5lb excess earlier in the year.
Would really appreciate it if people could chime in with words of encouragement along the way.Last edited by supermad4it; 05-31-2013 at 08:39 AM.

Hi I'm Julie one of simon's 'Cornwall friends'. I've decided to take the challenge on with him as mutual support for my own weight loss goals...I will also be bigging Simon up as I'd really like us both to be happier and healthier in 12 months time. If you also want to give me £5000 I won't complain.

Going well so far. (Day 1 :d)
Had a late breakfast, early lunch: Ham omelet + lettuce, tomato, and cucumber - no dressing
Snacks so far: Banana and cooked chicken wing.
Planning on doing some kettle bell exercises shortly and also going on cross trainer this evening Will confirm when complete.
Have only drank water so far today.
Myfitnesspal says I have consumed roughly 1200 calories - I'll add 250 for errors, still leaving me well below 2000.
Didn't manage to do exercise as was loading / unloading a van full of wood etc so that will do.
Weighing myself is prob pointless in such a short space of time. Will weigh myself in morning.
Because of the calorie deficit, would def say I have made a good start. Happy with Day 1!Last edited by Get2thechopper; 06-01-2013 at 02:15 PM.

1000 calorie breakfast! well thats fine so long as you accept the punishment of less food throughout the rest of the day! but if you burnt off a few hundred doing kettle bells that helps too. Also if you're target is 2000 calories, and you only ate 1500 yesterday, you have a bit of a buffer there.

Yeah, realize the risk of having a large breakfast. Skipped lunch and had a light dinner with a few snacks. Have totted it up on myfitnesspal and it comes to 1675 calories consumed. I'll add another 250 for error so just below 2000. Been fairly active around garden today and also did the kettle bells. (just 3 sets of 15 reps on each arm x 30lbs) Once again, only drank water today. Feeling good and day 2 is a definite + result. I'll weigh myself in the morning.

Hey Bro! Thought I would join in and help with the motivation! Hope the first few days haven't been too tough. It's always the beginning the is the hardest. Once you get into the swing of it you will be grand!
Anway - I just wanted to find out if you have created a timetable/plan for your exercise routine? You need a strict routine that you do without fail. As the saying goes, no one plans to fail, they just fail to plan! I would like to see an initial 2 week plan of exercise up on here by tomorrow!

That is a very good suggestion Claire. I'm on it
Yes, first 2 days were a bit of a shock to the system. It's hard because when you have bad habits you automatically reach for things like diet coke, fruit juice, or go to make a sandwich and then you have to stop yourself. Found myself doing that a couple of times. Also, had a nasty headache the first night - some sort of withdrawal I don't know, wouldn't have expected it to happen after only 1 day.
Now the first few days are over I feel like I am properly into a routine, at least with respect to keeping tabs on what I am eating.
Just need to get a regular exercise program going now, as you suggestedHere we go again!

thats about 12lbs in 3 days simon, sick results.
Dont expect that pace to continue - once you cut back on carbs your body will be getting rid of water. Its why these low carb diets get everyone excited but its mostly water loss for the first week.
But definitely some of that will be fatloss, so good job! I wouldnt deprive yourself of zero calorie drinks (or things like zero calorie jelly) though, they may not be good for you, but they are zero calories so will not affect weight and can help with cravings.

Just finished cross trainer. 500 calories dead on.
Just over 25 minutes, RPM = 77, HR = 155. Knackered but feel really good
+ 1 set each arm, 20 reps kettle bell just for good measure.
Day #3 summary according to myfitnesspal: 2,040 Goal 1,969 Food - 500 Exercise 1469 Net calories
Will weight myself day #4 (morning)Last edited by Get2thechopper; 06-03-2013 at 11:49 AM.

good job. Next time go with a BPM of 125-130, you'll find it a million times easier and 40-45 minutes of that will burn 30% more calories than what you did, and it'll be as intensive as going for a walk as opposed to a run. google "calorie counter bpm" for more info.

According to a site I just looked at after googling "calorie counter bpm", 45 minutes at 125-130 HR would make me lose about 620-640 calories.
I find it easier just to do a higher HR for a shorter period of time. Although perhaps I am not understanding it properly....
