    Lift choices for first meet

    Hey folks,

I understand that I should let my body tell me how strong I feel after the openers, but...

I need to make sure I hit 610kg for my first competition June 8th. I'd love to surpass it and get +15-25 kg, but 610 is a must. How should I get up my lifts so that I ensure I can get it? Should I aim that 610 on my second lift or my last? I have not done a mock meet and now it's too late.

Openers (my first comp, so making sure I can easily get on the board):
    SQ - 190kg
    B - 145kg
    DL - 210
    Tot - 545 kg

    Approx: current max:
    SQ - 227.5
    B - 160
    DL - 255
    Tot - 642.5

What do you mean it's a must? Is somebody going to murder your family if you don't get a 610 total?

It's a must because it's a goal I set and am going to achieve. That's why I'm asking advice on strategically choosing my lifts.
I love lifting plates and bars.

It's your first meet and having a goal is great, but I wouldn't put that much pressure on yourself by saying you MUST hit a certain total.

I have a number I would LIKE to hit, but realistically, my goals for my first meet are:

    1. Have fun
    2. Learn from the experience
    3. Don't poop myself on the deadlift
    Last Meet:
    April 16, 2016 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfZbWY-FVw0)
    1,443 lbs @ 270 lbs (529.1 squat, 303.1 bench, 611.8 deadlift)

    Next Meet:
    August 6, 2016
    GOALS: 1,482 lbs @ 270 lbs (540 squat, 314 bench, 628 deadlift)

I understand you're opening low on the squats because it's your first lift of your first meet. The deadlift opener looks far too low though. I generally open on a weight I can get for 3 reps (by meet standards). I'd have thought you could get 210kg for close to 8 reps with a 255kg max. If you get the 227.5kg squat and 160kg bench then you should really be able to get to 610kg on the opener for the deadlift. Your subtotal would be 387.5kg which would mean a 222.5kg opener would take you to 610kg. If the squat and bench doesn't go to plan and say your subtotal is 370kg then go opener, 240kg on second to take you to 610kg, third attempt for example.

I would open with something like 210-145-230. But that's just me.

this or 5kg lower squat and dl. you're gonna have to make huge jumps you likely aren't used to nor knowledgeable enough to know what you can handle
    gym lifts/competition lifts

    squat ???/650
    bench 545/435
    deadlift 600/601

    Squat:
    Attempt 1- 200 kg
    Attempt 2- 215 kg
    Attempt 3- 220/222.5/227.5 kg

    Bench:
    Attempt 1- 140 kg
    Attempt 2- 152.5 kg
    Attempt 3- 155/157.5/160 kg

    Deadlift:
    Attempt 1- 225 kg
    Attempt 2- 242.5 kg
    Attempt 3- 250/252.5/255 kg

Without knowing what your depth is like, how good your pause is, or if your approximations are correct or not that is how I would pick attempts for someone. Each lift's 3rd attempt has a low, med and high which would be based on how good the 2nd attempt looks. But even if you went with only the lows on all 3 lifts, you would beat your 610 goal with a 625 kg total.

    Good luck.
