I had my first powerlifting meet and im sore as hell, it was saturday and its monday now. I took the week off before the meet, and the last thing i want to do is take more time off. my whole body is sore, especially my legs. they threw in a deadlift for reps competition for fun and now i can hardly walk. i really want to get back in the gym
have you guys ever just sucked it up and hit the weights after a meet even when you're sore?
what can i do to speed up recovery?

I run a full marathon after I do a meet. I do this about 6 days a week. I am very functional.

my meets are usually sat/sun, I train mondays always. Obviously it's a very relaxed session with low weights (50% 1RM work) and discussing how it went during the comp for myself and my fellow athletes in our gym mostly etc....but it's real training, just light!
TDLR: The next damn day! Don't believe/do deloads or such either, just go lighter for a week to not lose mobility and "feel" for the lifts.... ever.660 / 484 / 600 @ 270 lbs

I've taken a week off from both meets I've done. I decided to take a couple days off each time because of back stiffness after deadlifting in a meet, but went to a full week to just kind of take a mental rest, reflect on what I'd accomplished... After all the months of training just take a week to feel awesome after competing lol.. then worry about getting better. Lots of people get right back in the gym doing 'light' stuff, but I don't lift light and 'light' stuff doesn't interest me. You won't set yourself back by taking some time to chill.

I am back the next day. Light work, to get the blood flowing through the muscles.
I'm debilitatingly sore the next day, as I never leave anything on the table at a meet. If you can, get a professional massage the next day. Works wonders. The Iron will never Lie to you.

Go in and see how you feel once you are all warmed up stretched out and foam rolled. If you have any doubts just do some light stuff, maybe even do a "bodybuilding" week or something similar to a deload week. Unless you are injured it is probably always a good idea to do SOMETHING rather then nothing, even if its just some conditioning and prehab.

After my last meet I did extremely light, high volume upper body work for about a week and worked up from there. Lots of stretching too. I think getting blood flowing, even with baby weight, helped me recover fast than usual. For some reason I can still pull heavy immediately following a meet though.
