    Question ICF 5x5

    Is it ok to change compounds from 5x5 to 3x5? I don't have the time to do 5x5 and I hate the long rest times. Is this ok? I would have thought it would be ok as look as your progressing in weight every week.

    i would still do a 5x5, but use the first 2 sets as a warm up so your rest times are shorter. then increase the workload on your 3 working sets. for example if you normally use 75% of your 1 rep max for your 5x5, use 80% if you're doing 3x5

    But doesn't doing a 5x5 in a 3x5 manner kind of defeat the purpose?
    Does increasing your weight by 5% really compensate for that loss of 10 reps???

    i have nothing to base this off of but i believe the heavier work load would compensate for the loss of reps to a degree.

    I tried it for a few weeks. I takes a lot of time especially the rest times. With 3x5 I'm able to hit the muscles harder and rest longer.

    In the 5x5 I had to rest shorter or else i'd be in the gym for 2+ hours. I didn't have enough time to do that. In the 3x5 I'm able to rest the recommended time( 2-3 mins)
