I think I would be very intrigued by this subject. Haven't studied it or whatever. Haven't read any books either...
Took Sociology in College (first time learning about it). And it really captured me, especially Conflict Theory. But some don't think that subject is 'serious'. I am majoring in business maybe minoring in psychology, but it doesn't mean I can't be interest in other subjects. As a hobby or electives I would like to learn more about Philosophy (I think).
Some on here might know why this might be interesting to me...idk why I just like deep things that require critical thinking skills.
Any more info on this will be appreciated
Thanks

The first philosophical books I ever read were Plato's five dialogues; pheado, apology, crito, meno, euthiphro (spelling?)
Start with these, they are short and very beautifully written.Pro MMA record: 0-0-0
“How could they see anything but the shadows if they were never allowed to move their heads?” - Plato
“Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.” - Voltaire
“Some eloquent speech is as effective as magic.” - Prophet Mohammed

Start with classics.
Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, etc. Go from there.

I also recommend Bertrand Russell's problems of philosophy.

lulz, but it is! If you in fact follow what stoicism teaches, if not, then you should reconsider your user title yo.
That's the philosophy of stoicism.

Well I only posted the link once. And to be perfectly fair, you denigrate a philosophy while following one. It is a conscious decision not to let things bother you. Which is what you are doing. But it's also an entire philosophy. Stoicism. Which, since you take as you username, makes it deeply ironic that you laugh at philosophy.

So your rejection of Philosophy is a concious decision Harbinger?

i'd say take a logic class if you could but i won't. to be honest it will just bore the absolute ****e out of you. not to say it's not absolute gold...but seriously...do the logic learning on your own time.
if you're in position to still take phil classes in college...well you will have to start with the intro/survey class as i'm sure that's going to be a prerequ for anything else. it's not bad. the gold will be in the breakout discussion groups which will be lead by phd candidates. hopefully you won't get an ******* but you might.
beyond that ordinary people might only take one more phil class 'on purpose'....don't take ethics. i've done the gamut and been thinking about it for a long time, and personally i think that would be a waste of your time. challenge yourself and take metaphysics, phil of mind, or phil of language (that's hard). phil of science or phil of social science are awesome but nobody normal will be taking them.
if your looking for some awesome intro books...honestly just go pick up the survey class book. that's where to go first...

I spent a long time yearning to find the limits of reason. Downside=there are limits. Upside=sportscenter is still good to watch.
It's not a useless endeavor though...it can easily show you what's wrong IMO. I'm not at all confident it can show you what is right or a 'right way to live'.
Stuff like cicero...'on the good life'. man that **** should be required reading just for practicality. it is gold. but that's not philosophy...that's rhretoric.
