Unfortunately strength athletes don't get a lot of recognition and are unknown by a lot of people. The athletes I look up too are Zydrunas, and Vytautas Lalas..Lithuania makes some huge people. Big Z, obviously one of the best ever and definitley the best overhead presser of all time. 485 log, 1000+ tire deadlift, 8 reps on Apollon's wheel. I just found about who Vytautas was a few months ago watching WSM, 11 reps on 715lb squat and a 460 log press. I watch Vytautas a lot and seeing he's 5'10 and I'm 6'0 on a good day, it proves you don't have to be 6'8 440 ( Shaw ) to win WSM. Random thread, who's your favorite athlete and why?

i like some of the current top guys, dan green, eric lilliebridge and Brandon lilly. but I also find lot of lifters motivating and inspirational can't really pick one. I dig the raw, lean jacked as **** movement to be honest though. We should all strive to be more like stan efferding

This is weird to me. I don't know Stan personally, why would I want to be more like him? I suppose I would prefer some of my numbers were closer to his, but it's silly to say "I want to be more like" a man who you don't know.... That said, if you DO know him well, and admire him, then I apologize. Although he seems like a good guy, i'm not in a position to say whether i'd prefer to be more like him or not.

the superheavyweights are cool, but i am fascinated by lightweight olympic lifters. watching a guy that weighs 50 lbs less than me pick up a weight that i can't even deadlift and throw it up over their freaking heads. seriously how the hell do you do that, i can't overhead squat 135 without falling on my ass.
