what are you doing at the gym that takes so long? I can't possibly imagine working out more than 1-1.5 hours.

If you're resting 2-3 min between sets, let's say 3 min, those 5 exercises shouldn't take you more than about 1 hour 15 min....

Definitely !!! 3 hours is way too much. And you train for strength or size? If you train for strength 2-3 minutes rest between set is ok. But if you train for size please do some result. 2-3 is way too much.

It's just time consuming. That's pretty much the only reason not to spend that much time in the gym. I would break it up into two sessions a day.

None the less, it won't hurt. (I dare someone to say cortisol. I dare them lol)

If you're seeing long term results from it, keep going. If you're platueaing, something is wrong.

Just depends on your schedule. You gotta decide what's optimal for you. If you feel fine, enjoy spending a lot of time in the gym, and are seeing results then go for it.

A half-hour for the DLs I could see, but the rest of this stuff is deadsimple not deadlifts. Are you the dude that goes to my gym and texts on his phone whilst taking up space on the leg press and bench press and ... ?

I normally spend between 2 and 2.5 hours in the gym and have not seen any problems with it besides being a bit tired near the end. A good pre or intra workout drink can help drastically with that.

Also, the above workout taking 3 hours is absurd. I'll do at least a dozen different workouts with 3 minute rest periods for major compounds and still spend less than 3 hours. I'll spend an hour of that just working on bench and squat. What the hell are you doing in the gym for three hours?

Damn 3 hours. Are you timing your rest periods or are you Hurst guessing that you are taking 2-3 min rest. Are you also doing some cardio in that 3 hours? The longest I spend in the gym is 1.5 hours for legs and I do like twice the exercises as you listed

my workout is 45-60 mins.. sometimes 75 mins.. 45-60 is optimal and ull get nice results. Don't spend 3 hours in the gym, don't spend your time. Those 3 hours u can do something else for mind or your body.

3 hours in the gym isn't as evil as some make it out to be, but you gotta be on top of your diet. With that said....

there really is no optimal time frame. you can just simply be more efficient and less time consuming if you really wanted to be, with the same progress. if it truly takes you 2-3 hours with no breaks between exercises/sets (rest periods not counted), there may be some condensing that is necessary just to avoid ****arounditus.

there really is no 'max' rest period for anything either, just generally gonna wait longer if you're going for very heavy lifts. i take around 2-3 min between sets of squats. and around 4-6 min between my heaviest sets of deads. hypertrophy will still happen even if you wait 10 min between sets...not that i recommend it.

it's common to take much longer rests than you think you are. time your rest, I bet you 2-3 min is more like 4-6. Time flies when you're trying to catch your breath.

For what you're doing, it is way too long.

Let's break this down like this: 25 sets and 3 hours. That's 8.3 sets an hour. A set every 8 minutes. For exercises like curls, pretty unacceptable.

AllPro's says a maximum of 90 seconds? 30 seconds max for warmup sets; I usually end up doing around 60 second breaks.
Cut done with - basically unsuccessful first bulk as I did put on a lot of fat to go with the little muscle I added. I know what I did wrong first time round and won't be repeating it. Looking forwards to being able to eat a few hundred more calories!! At least I know I can cut fat efficiently: went from 143lbs to 120lbs and from 35in to 29in waist.

Are you seeing gains? If yes, then do whatever you need. But 3 hours seems like a looooong time.

Depends if you're training for strength or mass. If you're doing a strength routine it doesn't matter that much because you just need to rest as long as it takes to perform your heavy reps.

If you're training for mass however I recommend taking much shorter breaks. (60/90s)

I'd say 3 hours is too long but if you don't care about wasting so much time, do your thing bro.

In b4 OP belatedly responds, elaborates and explains a significant part of those three hours is warming up, cooling down, stretching, going back home or any combination of these.

I'm the opposite of you. I take 1 second breaks and I am out of the gym in no more than 13 minutes every time. Is this ok? I have gained 73 pounds in a week. I'm pretty sure it's pure muscle mass.

SRS- I work out no longer than an hour and a half...bar long cardio....Rest less.

    My lifts at 181lbs bodyweight:
    bench: 295lbs
    squat: 460lbs
    Deadlift: 555lbs.

    I am now around 191lbs.

I can say from experience that being in the gym any longer than an hour is counter productive in my opinon. All your energy is basically used up on your first lift. Your first lift should either be a squat, bench press, or deadlift.

My workouts only take now around 20-35minutes to complete in an out of the gym.

I plan to hit a 350lb bench, a 500lb squat, and a 600lb deadlift before the end of this year.

I agree with everyone else. I'm a novice body builder and I used to find myself having the same problem as you, but I found that I was spending too much time in-between sets. I use to wait a minute-two between sets, I dropped that down to 30-60 seconds max. Only time I really spend more then a minute resting now is when i'm on the last one or two sets of a compound movement like BB bench. Also, another tip I learned to speed up your workouts is to super-set stuff. If you're doing BB curls after you finish the set go knock out a set of something else, like crunches if its an ab day or something. My advice probably isn't the best because i'm a novice lifter, but hey it's worth a try.
