I normally spend between 2 and 2.5 hours in the gym and have not seen any problems with it besides being a bit tired near the end. A good pre or intra workout drink can help drastically with that.
Also, the above workout taking 3 hours is absurd. I'll do at least a dozen different workouts with 3 minute rest periods for major compounds and still spend less than 3 hours. I'll spend an hour of that just working on bench and squat. What the hell are you doing in the gym for three hours?Experience, not just theory

there really is no optimal time frame. you can just simply be more efficient and less time consuming if you really wanted to be, with the same progress. if it truly takes you 2-3 hours with no breaks between exercises/sets (rest periods not counted), there may be some condensing that is necessary just to avoid ****arounditus.
there really is no 'max' rest period for anything either, just generally gonna wait longer if you're going for very heavy lifts. i take around 2-3 min between sets of squats. and around 4-6 min between my heaviest sets of deads. hypertrophy will still happen even if you wait 10 min between sets...not that i recommend it.Powerlifter convert. Cut done with - basically unsuccessful first bulk as I did put on a lot of fat to go with the little muscle I added. I know what I did wrong first time round and won't be repeating it. Looking forwards to being able to eat a few hundred more calories!! At least I know I can cut fat efficiently: went from 143lbs to 120lbs and from 35in to 29in waist.

Depends if you're training for strength or mass. If you're doing a strength routine it doesn't matter that much because you just need to rest as long as it takes to perform your heavy reps.
If you're training for mass however I recommend taking much shorter breaks. (60/90s)
I'd say 3 hours is too long but if you don't care about wasting so much time, do your thing bro.

In b4 OP belatedly responds, elaborates and explains a significant part of those three hours is warming up, cooling down, stretching, going back home or any combination of these.

I'm the opposite of you. I take 1 second breaks and I am out of the gym in no more than 13 minutes every time. Is this ok? I have gained 73 pounds in a week. I'm pretty sure it's pure muscle mass.
SRS- I work out no longer than an hour and a half...bar long cardio....Rest less.**Thinks he is huge but is not huge crew**

My lifts at 181lbs bodyweight:
bench: 295lbs
squat: 460lbs
Deadlift: 555lbs.
I am now around 191lbs.
I can say from experience that being in the gym any longer than an hour is counter productive in my opinon. All your energy is basically used up on your first lift. Your first lift should either be a squat, bench press, or deadlift.
My workouts only take now around 20-35minutes to complete in an out of the gym.
I plan to hit a 350lb bench, a 500lb squat, and a 600lb deadlift before the end of this year.

I agree with everyone else. I'm a novice body builder and I used to find myself having the same problem as you, but I found that I was spending too much time in-between sets. I use to wait a minute-two between sets, I dropped that down to 30-60 seconds max. Only time I really spend more then a minute resting now is when i'm on the last one or two sets of a compound movement like BB bench. Also, another tip I learned to speed up your workouts is to super-set stuff. If you're doing BB curls after you finish the set go knock out a set of something else, like crunches if its an ab day or something. My advice probably isn't the best because i'm a novice lifter, but hey it's worth a try.
