Your heart is in the right place. I disagree with the majority of the proposed new gun laws too (really the only one that I didn't disagree with was background checks at gun shows for vendors that are moving large amounts of inventory).
But you can't disregard laws because there are criminals who won't follow them - that's every law ever.

This is so retarded. People should be allowed to take a driving test and what limit they think they can pass a sobriety test and if they pass the driving test they should get a statement on the back of their license that says "good up to .15 bac"
Driving while texting is way worse than driving after having 5-6 beers. At least you are paranoid to pay attention to the road after a couple of beers.
Don't get me wrong, if you are so drunk to where you are driving reckless then you should have your license suspended and be thrown in jail.
But I would rather ride with my buddy Andrew after he has had 6 beers rather than my girlfriend or grandparents sober.Kangaroo brah

Anyone still want to claim there isn't a prison industrial complex? This is just a ploy to make more money, and it will work.
Taxes are coming for ALL OF YOUR ONLINE PURCHASES too. We have to pay for this insane spending one way or another. Your friends and your family are going to be locked up for a few Benjamens

lol @ people thinking that the government is lowering the limit to save lives... This will save 0 lives, but it will put a TON more money in the pockets of the government...
Driving at 0.05 is prolly about the same as driving while you have a headache.
Im not advocating drunk driving, but to play devil's advocate... 30-40 years ago if you got stopped for drunk driving, the cop would follow you and make sure you got home okay... I bet 98% of accidents that happen while someone is around .08-.12 are just a coincidence and have nothing to do with the alcohol.
Again im not saying people should drive drunk but its overhyped as fuk and jimmies get way too rustled here on the misc. I never drive drunk, i bought a house within walking distance to 20+ bars just so i wouldnt have to worry about this, and i make friends sleep on my couch if I see them out and they drank too much, but just sayin...

I'm on recharge. Someone neg this fukking idiot. srs. And the punishment is different depending on the BAC. I got 30 days jail or community service for blowing a .19 and speeding. The lawyer couldn't get less community service days due to my BAC. Had it been higher then a .19 then I would have been doing a 9 month DUI program, luckily I only got 3 months. One guy that got 40 days for blowing a .36 and crashing into a pole had an 18 month DUI program because of the BAC.
Not to mention that there is also different penalties if you are a first, second, third offender. I think after the third DUI you lose your license for a few years, and have to do an 18 month program and rehab. Not sure what the fine is... again, this is in California. Might be different in other states.
Let me talk about the DUI program, waste of time and money. Do you learn anything? There is a few things I learned about how the body reacts to alcohol and what different parts of your brain are affected. But all the information you are fed is questionable at best. These people swore that Marijuana is highly addictive, and that it gives you cancer just like smoking.
During my Group classes all we talked about was about our day, sports, and the last 20 minutes of the 2 hour class we went over our work book.
I would say that the hardest part for me was the community service because that meant I worked for 5 days at my old job, and my 2 days off I was doing the community service for 8 hours. That meant walking the roads, clearing ditches during the rain season in the rain with rain gear, helping with the counties tree service, etc. We were beat at the end of the day. I had to do that from August until the end of November. brb no days off.
I think more community service, like 30 days like I did, would be better because people like their freedom and when you are just doing community service on your days off, you really begin to regret the crime. Most people that were in there for a DUI had to only do 3 days.
Even for street racing I had a steeper punishment. The reason I was told that the penalty for DUI is not as steep is because doctors, lawyers, CEO's, etc. get caught for it all the time, and they cannot be doing 30 or 40 day community service... lol, money talks obviously.
Giving a first offender DUI for blowing a .17 two years in jail is retarded. Not to mention a waste of Tax payer money. Like I wrote earlier, if we fix public transportation first, then DUI's would drop dramatically.

This. Texting has been proven to be worse than drunk driving. brb looking down at phone instead of the road. Not to mention that a lot of the statistical numbers are skewed. For example, let's say you are stopped at a red light and had three beers. A car comes from behind and hits you. The accident wasn't your fault... well it is now considered an alcohol related accident even if you are not over the limit, just because you had three beers, and someone else hit you from behind.
Fun fact: You can see better, at night, while intoxicated because your pupils are bigger.

You'd be surprised how broad the law really is. There was one guy in my DUI class that was drinking a beer, walked to his car, put the beer on the ground, opened his car to get something out of it. Cop rolls up, asks him if he was drinking and driving, he said no he was just getting something out of the car, cop walks up to the hood and feels it's still warm, claims guy is lying, gives him a DUI. lolwut?
If you smoke weed and haven't smoked in two weeks... let's say you are pulled over and find the drug on a test, automatic DUI. Even though you did not smoke for two weeks.
You can be sleeping in your car with the keys off the ignition, DUI.
A guy that got a .37 BAC saw the cop that arrested him and said hi to him.. cop was dumbfounded that he even remembered anything because the cop sent him to the hospital for alcohol poisoning. Even the cop told him "you have my respect, you can drink" lolwut? But you're right, everyone is different.
