"States should lower the benchmark for determining when a driver is legally intoxicated to 0.05 blood-alcohol content rate from current 0.08, federal safety officials recommended today."
A decade-old benchmark for determining when a driver is legally drunk should be lowered in an effort to reduce alcohol-related car crashes that claim about 10,000 lives each year, U.S. safety investigators said on Tuesday.
The National Transportation Safety Board recommended that all 50 states lower the threshold from 0.08 blood-alcohol content (BAC) to 0.05.
The idea is part of a safety board initiative outlined in a staff report and approved by the panel to eliminate drunk driving, which accounts for about a third of all road deaths.
The board acknowledged that there was "no silver bullet," but that more action is needed.
"This is critical because impaired driving remains one of the biggest killers in the United States," NTSB Chairman Debbie Hersman said ahead of a vote by the panel on a staff report.

I overhead a classmate in my class talking about her friend that was DUI and got into a car accident. All 4 friends in the car with the driver ditched and ran away leaving the driver.
Now the driver is all ****ed up in the face with his life basically ruined at 21. The police guarding the room won't let anyone in but immediate family members.
Retardss...For the husband who told his wife he loved her before his plane went down in a field. For the wife who stopped in the stairs to call her husband to say she will love him forever. For the mothers & fathers who kissed their kids goodbye that morning for the last time. For the policemen, firemen, & other rescue workers who rushed in to help others & lost their lives. For the soldiers who fought back & made the ultimate sacrifice. Today, tomorrow, years from now, we will remember.

Are you dickholes saying this is a great idea serious? The average man can drive fine after drinking 3-4 beers. End of story. That would put you above this new legal limit I'm sure, and that is bull****. There is a huge difference between driving when you're ****faced drunk and driving after a reasonable number of drinks that aren't enough to impair your judgement/reaction time. You ***gots are just chomping at the bit to have the government impose more laws on you though. The best part is that i'm sure a bunch of cock smokers will quote this and tell me how wrong I am. Regardless of whether or not they lower the limit, dangerous drunk drivers will still drive, the only thing this is going to do is screw people who had a couple beers and were unlucky enough to get pulled over or hit a checkpoint.

Won't do jack **** except land more people in jail. It's already been proven that drunk driving laws don't do a whole lot to stop drunk drivers.
In Ontario, as soon as you hit .05, you get an immediate roadside suspension and lose your licence for 3 days. At .08, you're getting really comfy with the inmates.

I can't drive with any alcohol in my system. Was fukked up one night, took a cab back to the room me and my friends were staying in. I was completely blacked out and for whatever reason I decided to drive. Next thing I know I am on the freeway on my way home. Got pulled over for doing 103mph. Cop said I was driving fine, just speeding. I blew a .16 but the BAC was a .19
One of my ex's told me she was glad I was caught because otherwise I could have ended up in jail like her dad for killing someone. No thanks jeff.
Now I just have someone take me to the bar, or take a taxi there. Can't drive without my car being there, and because I don't trust myself because I am very stubborn.
The problem in America is that our public transportation sucks balls. If we had a better bus, subway, train systems in place then I can see that DUI number dropping substantially.
.05 means that two beers with get you a DUI. Everyone is different though. I can personally say I drank a 60oz beer on Sunday and felt totally fine. Were my reflexes slowed at all? I'm sure, but I couldn't tell at all.
Moral of the story, Don't drink and drive.

This is just a scheme to make more money.
The whole DUI system is a racket.
In Cali you're gonna spend around $10,000 before all is said and done.
AA Meetings are another joke.
I weigh around 220 right now. at .05, I couldn't even have 4 beers. Bull****.No matter how old you are, or how much of a badass you think you are, if a toddler hands you their ringing toy phone, you answer it damnit.
