Can water retention make a big difference in how you look? How do you lose the extra water? Since I already don't drink much water, does that mean I don't retain a lot of it? How do you know if someone is retaining a lot of water?

when drinking more water, how long would it take to notice a difference? Also, I know this is a dumb question, but how would I know if I'm bloated? Like, my stomach always sticks out, yet when I lay down, it doesn't. So this surely can't be fat, because it'd look the same standing vs laying, correct? Also, in the morning my stomach is pretty flat, but throughout the day it starts getting bigger and bigger
