    When to use knee wraps

posted by another guy ''This past week I began my Sheiko training in preparation for a meet in early May. For my training, I am using my raw maxes and not wrapping my knees for my squats. I have only actually used my wraps a few times and not in any serious training. With the sheer volume that is involved in Sheiko, there is no way I can actually use it on every squat, but at what point should I begin to wrap my knees, and how should I incorporate wrapped training with my regular Sheiko schedule?'' but my situation is the same. I'm 3 weeks out from my mock meet so should i start wrapping up now and increase the %age by 5 % ? I've been training with just sleeves with a wrap max .

i would start adding wraps to the last like two sets about three-four weeks out from a meet. start working in singles at that point too replacing a set or two. some people get a lot out of wraps, some like no weight at all.

I compete in wraps but I base all my squat programming off my sleeve max. I find it pretty useless to wrap up on sets based on a sleeve max, because then it's not really much work at all. When I do wrapped sets, I just add wrapped sets after my other sets. I typically train with a lower volume approach than Sheiko though, so take it for what it's worth. For reference, my sleeve max is 570 and my wrapped max is 622.

If you are not at a point where your knees are caving in then you may not need them at all yet.

I'm a lil curious about what y'all think about that too.

I was thinking about adding in some wraps by the end of the year just to try em out. My squat is nothing great (365 @170) But hopefully by the end of the year it'll be "decent" (goal's 405) What do y'all think 'bout adding in some wraps?

I may be doing it "wrong" but I base my training percentages off my best wrapped squat and do all but my heaviest training sets in EFS super heavy sleeves. They give a little carryover like a weak/loose wrap...works well for me at least
    Best total @ 198: 1520 @ 195.4 - 575/360/585
    Best total @ 220: 1603 @ 219.6 - 578/402/622 wraps; 1504 @ 206 - 529/363/611 sleeves

I compete in wraps and train sheiko. I put my wraps on at the 50% mark, but only light and put them on pretty tight at 80% and crank them at 85%. From my perspective to get the most out of wraps you need to train in them, learn to use them and practice practice practice. It's really rough on your skin at firsts with all the volume from sheiko, but you get used to it. Wearing skins also helps.

Definately worth it, I got a pair of the original titan sleeves (huge mistake). I'm going to get either Rehbands or the Quest Nutrition ones that SPFJudge told me about now. They make my knees feel amazing!

don't do this. you're gonna blow through wraps and its completely unnecessary. train without/in sleeves and then add them close to a meet.

wraps aren't like a squat suit. you don't need hours of lifting in them

Just saying that if someone has no issue with knee warmth and forcing their knees out at any point of the lift they don't absolutely have to have them. There are raw divisions with no knee wraps in a lot of federations.

I am not any type of expert on the subject so if you think everyone needs them to squat I'd like to hear the reason why. I am here to learn.

I have my first meet in June and based on where I am at and since I have no practice with knee sleeves I decided on the raw and not the raw classic division(novice entry).

I do plan on eventually getting them when needed, like how I need wrist wraps due to ****ty stability in my left wrist.
Neither knee wraps nor knee sleeves are used to force the knees out. People still have the same caving issues regardless.

    Here is a quick breakdown.

Knee Sleeves are neoprene knees sleeves. they are generally allowed in "all" federations in Raw/unequipped divisions. They are allowed because they are basically used for warmth. Neoprene knee sleeves are not intended to stabilize or help move the weight.

Knee wraps are used in both Raw Classic and equipped lifting. There are plenty of people that still have missed lifts due to there knees caving while wrapped. While the knee wraps will help, it is still up to the lifter to force there knees out during the lift so all of the stored energy in the wraps can be exerted up.

Last thing, if your fed allows knee sleeves in unequipped. get them and try them out. You do not need "practice" in sleeves.

Thank you for the response. I deleted that post bc I thought I was derailing a little. I appreciate it.

First post here. I had it in my mind that I should only use knee wraps when my knees actually started hurting. Big mistake. Definitely start wearing them at 80%. I have the inzer iron z wraps. Definitely worth it if you can find them on amazon or something.
