Thanks for the advice.
I think after watching Mark Bell's video on meet prep I'm gonna just keep doing what I'm doing. It's working and I'm progressing.
Right now I'm doing 3/5/1 format but going for rep PRs and then a couple of heavier singles after. It's more work than is recommended but I'm getting stronger so I'm not sure it's wise to change things up much.
I guess at this stage a lot of it is trial and error. If it works then I know what I can do next time. If not, well I learn from it too.
I remember I took a week off training before my first meet and that didn't feel so good. I think better would have been a very light session on Wednesday/Thursday before a Saturday meet. My lifts felt like I hadn't done them in ages. Which is odd because I train everything once a week anyway doing 5/3/1 but it just didn't work for me.

Weighed in at a super sexy 239 today (with shorts shirt and shoes) and benched a fairly easy paused 455, everything is on target. Then I did single arm cable flyes. Take that.
It'd be like staying fat while running marathons because it's more impressive to finish a marathon when you're overweight. It might be impressive in the short run, but in the long run it just doesn't make any sense. ~breathinglife

Anybody compete in the APF? What was your experience? They have a meet within reasonable distance from me Dec 7th I might consider doing.

It all depends on who the meet director and I guess judges are. I've never competed in an APF meet but I have been to a few of the annual Orlando ones in the fall. From what I saw: too many lifters and with geared lifters that takes a very very very long time to get through. I was there 9am to 11pm one year. However, the meet director has capped the lifters for this one at 60 so it shouldn't be like that at all. As for the judging...it was pretty lenient from what I saw.

Fam, first time squatting in a month today. The weights felt heavy on my back, but I had a good session. Next week starts meet prep!
