Smith machines will take about a good 45lbs off the total weight of the lift.

I can do 315 on a smith pretty easy, but regular bench is a different story.

when i said id try it out on smith, i meant its just to get a feel for the weight (i know its easier and doesnt count), before doing it free weight. My goal is to bench 405 5 times by the time im 18 xD A bit optimistic but theres a vid of some guy doing the same on youtube and seems natty. So i figured if i can bench half that after a year of lifting ill be on the right track

I dont think youll do it, especially since you said youll try on a smith machine, probably means you've never handled heavy weights before

I can picture you attempting the rep and the weight comes crashing down on you in the first rep.

not sure, i always use dumbells (obviously id be lifting more with a barbell), can easily bench 150 for 8-12 reps, like i said, i never really go heavy but im going to give it a shot

Well if you want to get 405 at 18 you definitely have to lower the reps..

What do you normally bench? And when you say your DB bench stats, you seperate it per dumbbell, not combined. Not sure if you meant you bench 75 lb dumbbells for 8-12 reps, or barbell bench 150 lbs for 8-12 reps.

I mean go for it, but its unlikely. Youre way overestimating yourself, 150 x 12 would be like 175 x 5. I can rep 185 x 8 but can only do 205 x 5, maxing at 230 for 1 rep.

Okay then anything you ever bench for the rest of your life aint sheet because there are youtube videos of kids benching 500lbs.

That's such a stupid way to look at it, I've probably never met a 15 year old in my life who could bench 205lbs even once so yeah he has the right to brag. 205lbs is a lot of weight and takes serious dedication to achieve, it's definitely something to be proud of.

On a smith machine I think you can do it. Regular bench maybe not.

Nobody's hating? Youre just being ridiculous if you can only bench 150 for 12 reps and think you can do 205 for 5.

But do try it anyways, itll be a good educational experience for yourself.
