Can you keep lean and big at 70 years old?

lets say if I workout about 3 times a week with weights and do cardio 2 times. Will i get saggy skin? I am 26 so if I keep working out till the day I die can I be strong and fit or as I age I will slow down?

Before you start worrying about staying lean and big at 70, I think your biggest hurdle will be to continue training in your late 20s to early 30s when you have the stress of a career, a spouse, and little kids all pulling your priorities in different directions.

That seems to be the challenging time that pulls most guys away from being concerned about staying lean and big. If you can make it through that, the rest is cake.

Naturally? It Depends on your body type but generally, No. I'm 60 now and have been training for 41 years and I'll tell you that your body changes especially in the area of keeping muscular size and where your body wants to store fat. I'm fairly lucky genetically but it takes sooooo much effort to just maintain that I don't think most people want to do this. In 10 years I may not want to or have the ability to continue. I believe the key to all of this is test levels. I've been blessed in that department as I still am at 700 but was at 900 5 years ago. So, I think it depends on your work ethic and test levels as you get older if you can maintain size and stay lean.

I think I can, I get up at 5 a.m. I like to be productive throughout the day and get **** done. And nothing better then starting your day off right with a good workout.

Considering the way you spell, I highly doubt you're smarter.

As for making a lot (not "alot") more money, so what? If you're a douchebag with money, it just makes you a rich douchebag. And you'll still be a douchebag. Gnomewhatahmsayin'?

As for your original question which could have been phrased a tiny bit better, I think Tommy W put it best. You will probably lose some if not a lot of elasticity in your skin, you'll probably get smoother in terms of holding more interstitial fat, and if your test levels drop, there goes some of your muscle mass.

Oh, and concerning the money thing, junior?

    You lose.

To quote an anonymous source: "Life doesn't come with guarantees, so live, laugh, love & be happy... that's all that should matter! In the end, sweating the small stuff won't matter." There are some of us that are fortunate, blessed and lucky enough to have made it pass the 70 mark.

and to my dear SIMPY, whom I think the world of, I don't believe it was a legitimate question: first of all, how many of us, even an old fart like me, know what it is like to be over 70???

virtually none of us are...so what makes him think we have the answer to that question??

anybody that is only 26 years old and is pre-occupied with what will happen when he is 70, has a separate set of problems....

When I was 26 the LAST thing I thought about was being an old man: I was SO into lifting and a couple of years from my first competition, that was the only thing on my mind....

Plus, in addition to that, I was graduating Dental school and had a career and Fatherhood to think about ( my first child was born, when I was 26 ).....

70?????????? that didn't exist in my world at 26 years of age......

I believe that we all have to do our best and strive for maximum health at whatever age we are able to make it to. By the Grace of God, I will still be in good health at 70. As we know, not everyone is able to live that long. Although I recently saw that short people tend to live longer so I have that going for me.

First, that was you. Second, I bet you did have fleeting thoughts about aging and muscle mass but you didn't have access to the technology that made it possible, and a social norm, to voice every question that you had, fleeting or not. I choose to believe, until the OP gives me reason not to, that he had a question about age and ability to retain/maintain muscle mass. If people don't like the question, they don't have to respond.

Great point Bo - I spent my 30's getting fat and miserable, has taken me about 4 years to get back where I was in my 20's.

Aging can have a significant impact on your body's performance and appearance. There used to be some really interested reads on here by Arlechinno about aging and bodybuilding. I'm sure if you searched that you'd find them.
Great, reasoned response. Reps on recharge, I'll get you my measlies tomorrow.

Yes you can stay fit and lean.
70 is just a life cycle....mind sets change as you get older.
Fitness takes on a new meaning at advanced ages...not the same as in your 20's. It is just as satisfying mentally and much more physically.
I may not be able to get bigger but I sure am getting stronger. A little sag here and there come with the life cycle.
Probably overall, I live in the moment and because of that age makes no difference.

Quit thinking about it...you have no power over aging but you do on how well you age.

    Good luck....Jim B

Why the heck are you stressing about fifty years from now?
Cut done with - basically unsuccessful first bulk as I did put on a lot of fat to go with the little muscle I added. I know what I did wrong first time round and won't be repeating it. Looking forwards to being able to eat a few hundred more calories!! At least I know I can cut fat efficiently: went from 143lbs to 120lbs and from 35in to 29in waist.

    ---

l'll remember your sage words of advice next time I read one of your "lemon grenade" threads.

As for my response, I have all too many times read some young person's questions which seemed legit and turned out not to. Trolls be trolls and all that. I'm not saying this individdle was a troll...but his question came up a little odd to me.

So, did I come at him, bro? Maybe so...and his response was a typical, smarmy, wise-ass one, bragging about how much money he'd make and yada yada ad infinitum.

So you're goddamned right I negged him. He can neg me, too, if he wishes, or you can, if you like. That's your right. And if you'd bothered to read my response where I gave a legitimate answer, then you'll see my intentions were pure.

I'm out of this thread. Will return to it when I'm seventy...if I live that long, and if my future saggy skin allows me to type.

Well I met some 70 year guy at the gym who was showing me some workouts and he was doing pull ups with 105 lbs attached to him. So that where my question comes from because I would like to be like that guy some day. I do not know why you get so pissed. You will not make it pass 65 years old.
