i heard that one state had to stop wrestling in high school because all the wrestlers were getting herpes. My team had a problem with ring worm this year. Damn kids don't shower after practice.

Ring worm and Empatago<SP>
are the only 2 things I ever got. I have never heard about Herpes or any other non fungal disease being spread with wrestling

Herpies isn't spread that way..only fungal disease can be or if someones sick. And that's why there's a shower policy.

There is many types of herpes, many of these types are none STDs. Skin to skin contact can transmit most types.
Why do you think jiu jitsu guys wear full gi uniforms when they wrestle?

Actually, there are 2 types of Herpes. 1 is the STD and the other is the common cold sore. The cold sores are what were the outbreak.

You can definitely get herpes through wrestling. One of my buddies couldn't go to college conferences this year because of a herpes outbreak on his neck. I'm actually not sure what it was diagnosed as, but he referred to it as herpes.
Also, preventing ring worm isn't as easy as showering after practice... When you wrestle your skin gets raw and has microscopic cracks in it, the fungus can get in between those cracks and conventional "shower + soap" doesn't cure it.
In college, when a wrestler contracts herpes, he will usually either wait it out or...cut his skin with a blade then pour selsun blue or bleach on it. THe latter method will usually leave a scar.
Good way to never get ringworm: After practice, take a shower, and soap your entire body up with Selsun blue shampoo...then just stand there for 2 full minutes (count it out) on your body, then rinse off. Your skin will be dry as **** all season, but atleast you won't get ringworm. Trust me! It works.

There are actually many more types than 2! Almost all types of shingles are herpes.

dude the #1 killer of ringword = clear nail polish. Put it on, leave it alone, let it fall off and voila! Goodbye ring.

Actually there are many types of herpes, simplex 1-which is mouth herpes, and simplex 2- which is groin/anal herpes. All types of cold sores are mild cases or herpes, and there is no cure for herpes..
I wouldnt reccomend using nail polish on ringworm, just use an anti-fungal cream, best and cheapest is like lamasil for foot fungi.
Shower after practice with hot water and soap. and be sure that the coaches/janitors are cleaning, and letting the mat air out daily. The mat can be a breeding ground for all types of fungus and nasty things.
I wrestled for 9 years and have had pretty much everything you can thing of (not herpes or any std-- that is bizzare they got it from wrestling mat)

really? I think you're thinking about Type 1 and Type 2 herpes. Oral and Genital.
There are def. way more types of NON STD herpes out there such as cold sores, sun blisters, fever blisters and the list goes on.
I'm not trying to sound mean, but doing some research won't kill you.

Cauliflower Ear isn't a disease its an injury
......just sayin
On another note though, I think it has to do with the hygiene of the team in general when I was wrestling in Virgina I never got a single skin disease when a kid got ring worm everyone knew and everyone avoided it
But here in Missouri our team is a bit more "Intense" nobody wants to lose practice time and nobody wants to lose their partner and have to work with sombody they know won't push them and skin diseases were ALOT more common
It would originate from some dirty kid spreading it while going live with one of the most experianced guys then he would in turn give it to his partner without knowing it, then both those guys realize they get it and figure what the hell we both got it we will just wrestle eachother but then it ends up getting on the mat and the whole team gets it
We ended up having to buy some super chemical that D1 college use to keep their mats clean , have a mandatory after practice shower WITH Selson blue medicated , and the ones of us that didn't want to lose practice time bleached any potential spots the second they popped up.
Also if you are hellbent on praticing with a skin disease please cover it up, wear a long sleeve shirt if its on your knee use a knee pad , if its any weird place wrap some athletic tape over it.
Overall I have had
Staff (face) , Impetigo on my scalp ( its a bitch to get rid of) , Ring Worm ( Knee , Arm , Forehead) , Herpes ( somehow a kid wearing braces made it through skin checks with a cold sore and I cut my arm cross-facing him ended up with like 20 cold sores on my arm), Also have had cauliflower ear even though thats an injury wearing head gear may not seem " cool " but cauliflower ear hurts like a bitch and can cause permanent deformities if you dont get it treated so wear your head gear
