Wednesday, August 13, 2014 - Light S/B/D
Much appreciated, man.. unhappy about the squat though.
Thanks.. I wasn't nervous at all, but just today the nerves started to kick in a little. Accidentally stumbled upon some videos of people bombing out of their first meet.. didn't exactly amp me up lol.
I have a rough idea, but I'm really superstitious and so I never say what numbers I'm going for out loud, whether it be when I'm going for a PR on a training day, or something like this.
Today was just a light squat/bench/deadlift day. I planned to go super light on deadlifts, but in the end I just got 75% of each opener, rounded it to the nearest plate and quarter number, and did those.
Squat
45 x 8
135 x 3
185 x 2
(225 x 1) x 3 w/o sleeves, should've put on a belt to reinforce specificity
Bench Press - paused, my dad gave me commands on the singles
45 x 8
95 x 3
135 x 2
(185 x 1) x 3
Deadlift
135 x 4
185 x 3
225 x 2
275 x 2
(315 x 1) x 3 w/belt
That was it. The deadlifts somehow messed with my right glute and hamstring. They just feel tweaked or something. Obviously this is not something I want to let happen this close to the meet, so you better believe I'm gonna be foam rolling the hell out of it and digging into it with a tennis ball, if I can find one, tomorrow.
Other than that, stomach is still sorta bothering me. I'm starting to think if I DO have GERD, that's not the main problem. It's less that I get symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux, but much more that I just constantly feel queasy. Like the feeling you get right before you puke.. I've been getting that really often. It's such a disgusting feeling and I just want this to go away. May have to see a doctor after my meet if the Nexium doesn't do anything.
Feeling pretty sick to my stomach right now, so I'm just gonna let myself run short on macros (I got REALLY close to hitting them, so it's not a big deal.. besides I've been getting well over them every day) and go to bed now. It's only 11am but this is good, because I need to get in the habit of improving my sleep anyways.

By missed macros I mean 526g carbs instead of 530g (I usually get way over 530), and 189g protein instead of 210g.. so nothing huge.
I appreciate it man, this should be a huge learning experience and I'm blessed enough to have my loved ones there supporting me.. seriously feel so grateful, because so many people aren't in the position I'm in.
3 days out and it was super light, but idk. This is all just peaking/tapering protocol written up by Lyle McDonald, who I'm sure you're not a fan of. Regardless, I just needed something to follow going in.
Basically just said to have your last "heavy" deadlift session 14 days out, last "heavy" squat session 10 days out, last "heavy" bench session 5 days out, then light squat/bench/deadlift 2-3 days out to grease the groove and practice commands. And by "heavy" I mean like testing openers. My website:

I would never test openers this close. Openers maybe a week out. I don't pull the week of a meet. Maybe a light (50%) bench and squat on Tuesday or wed. Everyone is different. Just my .02

Thursday, August 14, 2014 - Off Day
Off day today. All I really did today was hit up some Cajun Grill with a friend, along with an Elevation Burger chocolate shake w/real strawberries and banana.. was soooo good. Obviously I also did my stretching/foam rolling, but I do that basically everyday so I rarely include that.
Right leg still bothering me, but I think it's actually some nerves in my lower back, on the right side. Every now and then when I transfer my weight onto my right leg, when walking, it just flares up. Kinda dies down when I flex my glutes while walking (doesn't look as silly as it sounds, promise), and then it'll eventually just go away. But it's pretty reoccurring. So I'm a little concerned about that and at this point I'm just praying it doesn't interfere with lifting on Saturday.
Tomorrow morning at 11:30am we leave to head up to our hotel in Lancaster and then weigh-ins are at 5pm. Very excited, I'll let you all know how it goes.My website:

Friday, August 15, 2014 - Off Day
Yeah man, it's gotten some better.. at this point, it's the nausea/queasiness that's really bothering me. And DAMN really man? Looking forward to that.
"iliketowastemytime dot com" lol wut
Definitely, man!
Okay so today we left for PA pretty early and got into stand-still traffic cuz of some insane car crash where one car was basically smashed into pieces. Got to the hotel, which is this crazy nice resort place with a big pool with a slide and kiddy area, full golf course w/carts, fitness room which isn't too shabby for a hotel room, and just extremely nice area in general.
I went to the meet to weigh-in and weighed in at exactly 210.8. I confirmed my openers and chose my squat rack height, and then we got some stuff to eat and went home. Feel like I'm ready for tomorrow, outside of this nausea. What sucks is that it's especially bad in the morning and that's when I'll be competing, but I'm relying on my Pepto-Bismol and just responding to my body appropriately. For example, I resisted the urge to stuff my face tonight, simply because I didn't have the stomach for it at all. Didn't even get close to hitting my protein, which obviously sucks, but I'd rather this happen than me feeling like puking tomorrow.
That's it. I'll report back after the meet!!!!My website:

Saturday, August 16, and Sunday, August 17, 2014 - Meet Results
The meet went really well.
It was obviously a very foreign experience to me, but it didn't take too long to figure out how things work. I ended up getting an 1145 total with 385/300/460. I went 8/9, missing only my 3rd attempt squat at 405, which sucks because I know I had it in me, but things just weren't working.
I wasn't feeling too great coming into the meet, because of the stomach issues I've been dealing with, and the squatting just made it insanely bad. In fact, after my third attempt, it was so bad I seriously contemplated dropping the meet. Then I saw how let down Angelica was when I told her that, and that my roommate from last year had driven out 40 minutes just to watch me lift, not to mention the fact that my dad and step-mom skipped a wedding ceremony they were expected to attend for this. So I got back to it and ended up having a great time.
So I begin my cut today, Sunday, but not on this log.
As I've mentioned before, after this meet, I'm switching logs, meaning today is the last day I post on this log. I would post some long endearing message about how awesome it was to get the support from you guys that I got for well over a year, but I know you're gonna come over to my new log so I won't have to worry
