I drink 5 to 6 litres (~1.2gallons) of water per day ... colleagues say it's bad?!

They all say that you need max 2 litres (0.4 gallons), or else you are destroying your kidneys lol. Surely they're talking shiit? I thought drinking that much water is good for you, have done it for years ... is this just broscience, kind of like how protein shakes make you fat and kill you?
Bodybuilding is like Fight Club...I was on a plane, sitting in my seat at the back. I looked up and saw a guy get on...big guy. I knew he lifted. I knew he ate oatmeal and egg whites for breakfast. He looked at me. He knew I lifted. He knew I had a protein shake before bed. We didn't say one word ('cause he was at the front and I was in the back), but I knew...and he knew. Now that's some cool, Fight Club type ****. Bodybuilding is the best thing since sliced bread...whole grain bread that is.

it won't destroy your kidneys. but it also makes no sense to take in that much fluid, unless you're a world class bicyclist sweating out tons of water.

the fuk?! no one is that stupid OP...saying water destroys your kidneys, lol what.

If you lift, take in protein in large amounts, food or powder, and take supplements in pill form you should get AT LEAST 100-120oz a day.

Some people are fuking stupid. You can drink 20oz of water every 20 minutes and be fine. Technically there is a way to drown yourself by drinking to much water, not sure I could do it but you can drink AS MUCH AS YOU WANT. Water wont hurt you.

edit: dont drink tap water...drink filtered or spring. To much BS chemicals in faucet water nowadays
-no gluten, dairy or high fat diet...not because I want to but because I have to.
---heart burn from heavy carbs, stomach cramps from gluten, cant digest fats properly and esophagus closes up as a reaction to liquid dairy.

-diet consists of: eggs, veggies, chicken, fish, some dark chocolate and fruit.
-cheat meals: kettle corn, baked chips, starbucks, gluten free pastry(small amounts)

maintains 200lbs 10% bf on 130-140g of protein a day and not eatin 8pm-8am.

the more water you drink the better

plus the more you drink, the faster your body will flush it, then you can drink more.

Just like 2k kcal per day is the ideal amount. Doesn't matter at all how much fluid leaves your body each day, how active you are etc. Keep on drinking your ideal amount.

at least 3 liters of fluid is recommended for dehydrated pts who are npo...so 5-6 liters for a healthy individual is pretty excessive and potentially be toxic

The more water you drink, the harder your kidneys have to work to process all this damn water and excrete it. Along with flushing out electrolytes faster than you take them in among other things, too much water is not a good thing.

You understand how kidneys work, right? The higher your glomerular filtration rate the more work the kidneys do. To say that an organ that has to do twice the work necessary isn't at a higher risk for failing earlier in life is a bit naive, don't you think?

read any article...Over 90oz a day is recommended for a normal person that isnt overly active or taking protein or supplements. An active person should easily get 50% more then that without trying. Your kidneys work harder trying to filter all the other sh*t you put in your body every 2 hours if you dont drink water...seems like common sense. Besides the fact that a family member of mine has Hep-C and I get to see the effects of eating and not drinking water pretty clearly and how your kidnets function when you eat to much fat, carbs...etc etc. More water the better in other words.

are any of them health conscience or in shape? Seems like an ignorant statement.

-cheat meals: kettle corn, baked chips, starbucks, gluten free pastry(small amounts)

maintains 200lbs 10% bf on 130-140g of protein a day and not eatin 8pm-8am.

    this is correct.

overworking any vital organ is a bad idea. drinking 2 gallons of water a day is a bad idea.

drink as much as you need. the average person should get about 8 cups. lifters should probably get around 12-16

Ask them if it is acceptable in the future, since they are commenting on what you intake, for you to comment on the unhealthy things that they intake?

brb unhealthy to drink water, no big deal to have 9 donuts.
It'd be like staying fat while running marathons because it's more impressive to finish a marathon when you're overweight. It might be impressive in the short run, but in the long run it just doesn't make any sense. ~breathinglife

I drink about 6 liters. Between my training (~2hrs) and my diet I need that much just to get through digesting and performing in the gym. You would be surprised how easy it is to get off track with hydration and your perception of how saturated you are with carbohydrates. Always have to make sure to hydrate after a starchy meal and also because of the relatively high protein intake.

Water intoxication can be prevented if a person's intake of water does not grossly exceed his or her losses.[11] Healthy kidneys are able to excrete approximately 1 litre of fluid water (0.26 gallons) per hour.

If your kidneys can handle about 6 gallons a day, 2 gallons a day are not gonna damage healthy kidneys or cause water intoxication.
