There's a MILLION smaller artists though. No one truly has time to deal with going through all those tracks so most people rely on their favorite DJs or labels to push music they enjoy. It sucks, but it's the world we live in. I absolutely cannot spend hundreds of hours a month sampling music for a 1-2 hour mix. I listen to a ton of shows, catch new releases on beatport, a little youtube research and boom I have my top tracks for the month and run with it. Some are new, some are old (this month I did some old Armin and Tiesto).
Even when I was big into Rock and Metal I had my favorite artists and never heard of anyone else. It wasn't until I became friends with a guy in a local rock band that I began to get a taste of the smaller groups and just how talented they actually were (one of them went on to open for a few big names like Motley Crue).
As I get deeper and deeper into the scene I'm made more and more aware of the smaller artists and djs and want to push them into popularity, but popularity doesn't want them. There's only room for a few at the top.
Just how it is.

the thing is, other genres dont have the DJ playlisting as a crutch for the public to find new music and so people are more likely to venture forward and find new artists that suit their tastes. here, people are pretty much fed new music and attribute it to the DJ which is ass backwards to me, and the DJs obviously do nothing about it. armin could very well promote each track much better, at least by including buy links where applicable for the tracks. instead, there's only a vote for ASOT tune of the week........for ARMIN to play on his next show.

Anybody know Alexander Popov? I've really been digging his remixes lately.
Feels very sausage-fattener'd out.

i dig his style but i think his execution could be better. his mixdowns have always seemed so flat to me, and armadas loud ass mastering just brings that out. sounds great on ipods but playback on a decent system a lot of it seems lifeless.

I'm starting to really appreciate Walter White by Above & Beyond. Did nothing to me the first few times I heard it but I was playing some random new tunes the other night when I got home still peaking and found it really interesting.

you're right, but still reliant on the networking power of one person or channel to expose artists further, again gaining exposure for the channel instead of the artists. i think websites such as hypem should be the future, except more geared towards providing information about the music up front. idk though
haha you have to consider FLs target market: the public. and aint no top40/hiphop/whatever wannabe producer gonna be interested in hearing some well mixed ****. loud is always better to the untrained ear or on less than ideal listening situations (ipods, **** speakers), and you can't really market production quality. you can, however, market loud nonsense because to the untrained ear it wont matter. beyond that... the track itself has to be basic enough to function as an FL studio demo. seamless makes far better music regularly, and the limitations of creating for the purposes of an image line demo track clearly effect the outcome.
but yeah, music is ****ing painfully loud now and it astounds me, but makes sense because for it to be considered impressive by most it has to either be extremely well written musically or at least hold up or blow previous tracks out of the water in production aesthetic: and again, to the untrained ear, loudness is better production aestheticNew Jersey Crew (973)

1) then it's something like groups on soundcloud....but basically it's the same like being subbed to many channels, they would upload all the music of any worth from these SC groups minus the really bad ones imo....havent checked out hypem yet though, will see
2) yes...he obviously knows his **** i mean the tutorials are amazing and he never goes like ''yeah lemme just browse this preset...nice...another one...nice, now compress and add some distortion, great''
he really understands how it all works, so that's why i am a bit surprised by this

the groups on soundcloud idea is a great idea. maybe a website that functions similar to soundcloud groups strictly for electronic music split into subgenres and availability to submit from youtube & soundcloud would be a nice community. wood pursue if i had any knowledge of programming lol, or maybe this exists already and im not familiar with it
edit: it also needs to be a standalone community imo, so that people of all communities are able to browse and contribute without tying into say... reddit or the misc lol. that way the community feeds into itself instead of off of the popularity of the bigger site
as for the seamless thing, you're right he does make high quality stuff but even though he can showcase how he does it all in his youtube tuts it doesn't mean that it takes him any less time to produce that quality in the first place. it sounds like the demo track was like half way through the process and smashed through a limiter, but after all its a demo track and i wouldnt expect his quality to hold up to the **** he can really sit on and hammer out. you'd be surprised to hear the final products compared to their initial or even half way points. take, for example, the armin & deadmau5 collab they never finished. surely, had they continued, it wouldve sounded infinitely better from their starting point they previewed. it just goes to show that nobody can make a fantastic track without putting in the leg work they require, on whatever level, to get to their own individual standard of production qualityNew Jersey Crew (973)
