Cheers is English. I thought Americans used it too? But yeah, people say cheers for thanks in England. Some people also say "ta" which comes from a Danish word for thanks. People also call each other "love" in everyday speech. So you might go up to a cashier and she'll say "cheers, love" or some say duck too. So "cheers, duck" or "ta, love". srs.
