Just heard on the morning news that the "Iron Lady" died in her sleep, a stroke evidently. Sad day! She was one tough, incredible lady. She'll recieve a state funeral. That is an event that I will watch, come hell or high water.

As someone who grew up in the UK during Thatcher's time, I have mixed views on her premiership. It's clear that action was needed to revitalise the economy, break the stranglehold the unions had on loss making industries and bring back the UK's competitiveness as an international power, however in some case she cut too deep - most of the benefits on industries like Steel, Telecom and Gas were made pre-privatisation and whilst it's true that a lot of the shares initially ended up with the average punter, over time they were bought up by pension funds or foreign companies, taking some of the country's key assets out our hands. Her deregulation of the financial services industry was also a bit too free and easy, letting the pinstripe pigs have too much control.

That said, she remains the last strong PM we've had and whilst I don't agree with everything she did or supported, she was a woman of conviction and not the bland face of 'please all' politics like "Call Me Tony" or the chinless wonder that currently runs the country.

There won't be another like her for a while. More's the pity.

On another forum I belong to, the lefties are practically dancing on her grave. Totally sad. While she left a mixed legacy of union busting, pushing for freer enterprise, and deregulating the business environment in general, no one can deny she had a clear vision of what she wanted England to become, a clear vision of what kind of place she wanted the world to be, and was a person of conviction who stuck to her guns no matter what. Right or wrong, she stood out as an individual who did what she thought was right. Not many other leaders can make the same claim.

Anyone who takes/took a stand against communism is OK in my opinion. A strong leader and will be missed.

I also grew up in the eighties - I had just left university when the early 90s recession hit and cursed the Thatcher administration at the time. But the fact remains, she was a remarkable woman, a strong leader and a trailblazer. She was Britain's first, and so far only, female PM, but she had more balls than most of the men who have succeeded her. She was definitely one of a kind.

I was a liberally educated college student at the time of Reagan and Thatcher. An honors English student. I was being taught to despise Reagan and her during that 'education.' Thank God I continued my true education after getting my Doctorate. College damn near ruined my ability to think critically.

God bless the courage of Ms. Thatcher. She was a tireless fighter for individual freedom and reduced power of government over its 'subjects.'

There is a good women in Heaven today, and a true Leader in a Free Society would do themselves well by adhering to some of this womans Standards and beliefs--------------- Pope John Paul II, Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher & Lech Walesa, 4 Giants in Western Society & all standard Bearers of Liberty in the Face of Tyranny, all Stood Firm and didn`t waver in the face of evil.

One of the last remaining politicians that had an immovable desire to achieve prosperity for the nation and to make a difference around the globe. She seriously upset a lot of the nationals in the process but her three election victories proved that she maintained a majority of support from the public.

The difference to today's turgid breed of politician is vast. Now it's about taking office, doing f**k all of credibility, saying yes and no at the right times, then swanning off into a life of honours and riches.

My step daughter and her husband unfortunately didn't realise they were being brain washed and have not learned hoe to think critically. They believe every fukkin word MSNBC, Obama, Bill Maher, etc utter at them.
