    No Weight Loss - Discouraged

I started on my weight loss journey weighing 154. I began a healthy eating plan and doing Insanity on December 1, 2012. I lost 5.5 pounds in 2 weeks and then stopped losing. I then hired a trainer February 2013 who has me eating clean and also workouts with weights. I have been doing this now for 6 weeks and my weight this morning was 148.6. I eat clean every 3 hours. I have one or two cheat meals a week. I don't know if I need to go back to Insanity or add more cardio. I lift five days a week for about 45 minutes. It's just taking FOREVER!!! I am 5'6 1/2" and I won't quit but would love to know if there are any tips to get this fat off.

    Eat less.

If you are not losing at the desired pace, reduce intake. If you are not counting and tracking macros, I would suggest you start.

Eating "clean" and eating every 3 hours doesn't do anything for fat loss. Nothing at all.

What exactly is eating clean? Detail of your diet such as what you eat each meal and what times would help a lot.
    Every day counts.

Are you actually tracking your calorie intake or just guessing? Change that one or two cheat meals to zero. Did you complete the full 60 days of insanity?

Like everyone else has stated, if you're not losing, you're still eating too much in relation to how much physical exercise you are doing. It's just science. You have to take in fewer calories than you burn to lose weight. Even if you're eating clean, too many clean calories can still keep you from losing.

I'd suggest keeping a journal of the foods you eat and their calorie contents. You might be surprised at how many calories you are actually eating.

Yeah you need to find your correct calorie range for you to lose fat (there are thread stickies but I'm on my phone so I am not posting links) and eat in that range consistently. You can eat as often as you wish---one meal, 2 meals, 5 meals, whatever---as long as within each 24 hour period you are within your losing range.

The process is slow. You really do need to enjoy the journey vs focusing all your attention on the destination. When people finally reach that weight loss goal number, they need to set NEW goals. This is a never-ending process: lose fat, see we don't nearly have enough muscle. Go on a mass-gaining program. Gain mass, but realize we are weaklings. Go on a strength gaining program. Get stronger and set PRs in all the Big Lifts and impress our family and our e-friends on bb.com.' Decide we want to be smaller lifters. Cut to lose fat again, still think we could use more muscle. Go on another mass-gaining/"bulking" cycle. And rinse, repeat.

stop eating beans, peanut butter, grains (including corn), potatoes, fruit, and dairy. cut out all sugar and carbs, start eating healthy fat (coconut oil, pasture butter etc). your body will start burning fat for energy instead of carbs. srs. limit your chicken intake and start eating grass-fed beef.

I started doing a paleo diet a couple months back along with my bf, his T levels went way up, he used to work out a couple hours every single day, now he works out a few days a week and is shredded. I have also lost fat in stubborn areas, my A.D.D. is gone, head is clear, mood is great, lots of energy, workouts improved...

Been doing a lot of research on paleo, it makes total sense.

There may or may not be health benefits to a paleo-type nutrition plan, but OP needs only to make sure she is eating less calories---FROM ANY SOURCE, including grains and dairy---than she burns.

Eat a little less. I don't think most people honestly know how many calories they actually dump into their bodies.

Start tracking your calories and you'll see.

Way too much nonsense in your post. Avoiding certain foods isn't a cure for ADD, or raising t levels and isn't how you get shredded.

    Correlation =/= causation.

Paleo makes no f*cking sense whatsoever......

It makes perfect sense to eat like a caveman if you want to live like a caveman.

I.e. have a lifespan of around 30 years and be constantly on the verge of starvation...

    This is total nonsense.

OP, simply eat a little less every day. There's no need to get trapped into some ridiculous exclusionary "diet" that has no scientific backing.

If you are making an attempt at healthy eating, then by all means eat "clean". Because let's face it, who is really going to defend eating antibiotics, hormones, artificially colored and flavored crap, highly refined garbage and what not. But from a weight loss perspective, it's simply a matter of eating at a deficit.

I know several people who "eat clean" who are fat. They are still over eating.

So yes, eat how you perceive clean to be, just track your macros and calories and be in a deficit.

Instead of just "eating clean" I would track your macros and what you are eating so you know exactly what you are ingesting. In most cases people seem to be surprised when they see the raw numbers.

And the scale is heartless, especially when you are combining healthy diet with exercise. The mirror is really the best method to tell if your program is working. Use the scale to keep tabs on where you are, but don't confuse weight loss with fat loss.

Lesser successful methods of feedback and tracking are using calipers or a bodyfat device. You can maybe try one of these if you really feel the need to have numbers to watch for progress.

I had pretty much the same expirence. Started Jan 1st. Eating well, heavy weights etc. initially lost 5 lbs the first week then it was up a pound, down 2, the up 3 then down 1. VERY DISCOURAGING. 3 weeks ago cut out wheat, flour, sugar and dairy, like a Paleo type thing. I thought it was going to be horrible, which it was for about 4 days. Now I feel awesome, losing at an average of 3 lbs a week and feel strong and energetic. I stopped calculating macros, and just eat what ever meat, vegitable, fruit and nuts I want. For the first time in my life I'm not hungry. Literally the first time!!!

I have no avi, and I am way (way way) less than handsome. Never had any negative feedback here. I guess a lot of it depends on whether or not your a DA. OP does not appear (atm) to be one.

I am basing this observation from he avi. Is that wrong.

Just curious, are you keeping track of your measurements as well as weight? It could be that you lost some fat and gained some muscle, the scale wouldn't show that. There could be some hidden calories in 'tasting' things as well that you may not be accounting for.

If you haven't done so already start keeping a food diary of everything that goes in your mouth that isn't air, get a food scale and measure and weigh everything. The diary will help you notice if you are really eating as clean as you think you are and if you really are in the calorie range you are expecting.
