$755 vs. $980 for the RM-3 (30 inch deep, 1 inch bolts)- seems like a good tradeoff:

Seems like everytime R comes out with something someone starts a new thread about it.
24 squatting clearance is inadequate imo. My crappy old bodysolid rack has 27 inch clearanceIt surprises me how many people refuse to buy equipment from Elitefts because its too expensive but they will buy equipment from their competitors, then continue to go on EFS website to educate themselves for FREE

This new rack is the same depth as the R3. Nobody seems to have any issues with the 24 inch depth for squatting. Also, if that was an issue for someone, this rack looks like the perfect candidate for adding a monolift attachment (sturdy frame with a small footprint)- like the one made by Edge Fitness Systems.

I remember back in the diz-ay my highschool gym had a power rack that had about 6" between the uprights! I believe it was this one in the illustration:

You could box squat in 24 inches, but i would feel more comfortable in a 30 inch rack.

I emailed Westside Barbell customer service to ask. (I didnt want to waste their time since I would order from Rogue, but they would know more than some random Rogue rep, so I thought it was okay.)
The person told me it would be very tight, unless you have perfect form. I dont have perfect form in anything. But they must know what they are doing or they would have made it bigger, but you get my idea.
Anyway this new rack looks nice. They have lots of different racks out now.[]---[] Equipment Crew #6 []---[]

To be fair, when I was still lifting inside the rack I had only just started Box Squats so I'm sure my form was garbage. IMO 24" should be fine for most people but there are a lot of people who like to take big steps back from the J-hooks and in that case, the 30" bolted R3 should be perfect. Plus it's only $20 extra

The rack that is pictured is a York Isometric Rack. It had two sets of adjustable bars on each side, one to start from and the other to push/pull against. I had the wider version which was called the WV Portable Power Rack along with the dip attachments and hevy duty J hooks. The uprights were not that much farther apart. Not enough room to walk out and do box squats. I used it as a power tower for dips and pull-ups.
Unless space is a factor, the bore distance between uprights the better.

I just wish they'd add an extended base as ingredient (which eliminates the need for bolting the rack down) as they teased on their ******** page:

they do have a lot of choices but i think it is not a bad thing, they have a rack for any kind of budget or any kind of lifter. The only thing i dont like about them is that there is only black colored racks. I think they loose some sales by not having color choices like other companies as elite fts or sorinex.

It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's far from noteworthy every time they release a different configuration of the same pieces. They should just sell all of the pieces individually and let the buyers decide how they want to put it together, like a big ass Erector set."What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
