I think it has no place in America. If I'm born white and someone is born of a different race, which is uncontrollable for both parties, it gives an advantage to the other party because of this. It's like I had a choice in being white and they didnt have a choice in their race. I think it takes away competition and that the most qualified candidate should be chosen regardless of race...
If you disagree, explain why.

It depends what context. If the goal is to promote diversity, in say a school or career, then AA is the quickest way to do it. Obviously the best way is to make changes so that more minorities are qualified in the first place. But thats a much more difficult process than just making it easier for them. So, in all I dont like but it may be necessary in some cases. This is a minority who benefited from AA in the past btw

Agree that it's unfair, but it's either do that to quell civil discontent or actually address fundamental issues at heart of socioeconomic disparity, which is infinitely less preferred by politicians (and it's also much harder, and arguably impossible)
I'd argue for a race-blind affirmative action policy that only considers socioeconomic status, but it's probably harder to institute such a policy you'd think

It just goes completely against the principles of capitalism.
You're intentionally taking people who may be equally qualified as someone who happens to be white, male, female etc and selecting them because of their skin color or ethnicity/heritage which has no bearing on their ability to perform a job effectively."There is no such thing as the future; only the continuation of the present."

the temptation to troll is so strong right now. Never have I felt myself drawn to a thread, for the sole purpose of trolling like this. Thank god there's just a little bit of self control left in me.

10/10 post. storied economist Thomas Sowell obliterated the AA debate by bring up those same fundamental issues at the heart of socioeconomic disparity, which politicians want absolutely no part in discussing.

should be based on socioeconomic status/thread
but then again, the kunts in charge of this country are too brainless or scared to do anything for risk of losing their popularity. IMHO, Obama only won because he was black and pushing more and more unemployment and other packages for the poor. which make up a good amount of the US btwAlways pick 3 crew

lold at trade off? Why do blacks deserve compensation for years of racial abuse? Every race has abused another race some point in history, humans have fought against other tribes, races, countries, etc. for thousands of years. it's part of life. Why would modern generations of blacks be entitled to privileges due to something that has not affected them in any way.
Affirmative action should be based off of economic status only, there are more whites who come from poor homes then blacks in the U.S. where is their entitlements?
