The "Pump" feeling and muscle fatigue

I know this is the wrong section but i need help and maybe a trainer can help me......
First a little back story I've went for a active lifestyle to doing absolutely nothing since high school (about 4 or 5 years) I was never in shape because i loved food and hated cardio but active and avid lifter well now I'm tired of doing nothing and im trying to get in shape

I know im starting from square one because its been so long since I lifted but my problem is every time I try to start a routine I hit the same problem, I've tried 3x this month

During my workout I never try to lift more then I can safely do and feel great during it never try to play thru the pain taking it real slow until I get use to it again afterwards I get the "pump" feeling I can feel my muscles sticking out and feel hard and I get that feeling maybe I actually worked hard today 90% of the time the feel is in my arms .....well three days later and the feeling is still there and to the point its starting to feel sore now and while I can move my arm pretty freely, bending from the elbow past 90° like trying to touch my hand to my chest or shoulder is an actual struggle and the feeling is somewhere between bad muscle fatigue and extreme stiffness and it takes about a week to go away fully well it's making it impossible to stick with a routine because I have to be able to bend at the elbow to lift yet here I am barely able to drink or eat and while its extremely uncomfortable and sore it's not really painful if that makes since......am I still pushing myself to hard I feel great during my workouts I never feel like im intentionally putting myself in danger ? Am I not stretching well enough before and after workouts? Has it been so long that they need to build up that much over again? I just wanna correct this so it doesn't seem feel like I'm starting from zero every week

I'm no expert, but you should try to get your body use to doing physical activity before going intense. You have shocked your body by quickly expecting it to preform, using muscles that haven't been used in years. Start with low weight with higher reps and correct form and your body will react.

*edit* wow that was my first post, I lurk around too much.

You my friend like many, suffer from delayed onset muscle soreness. Try to slow down and work each muscle group once per week. Increase water and protien intake as well.

Hi bg, I took a long time off and did not even goto the gym for over 4 years...but seeing as I was a pt at 17 and trained every week with no breaks since I was ten I learned that even if you take a holiday from the gym/training for any more than a couple of weeks, don't even try to do more than a few light circuits...hit some cardio after and make sure you do a really good post workout, targeted carb and protein shake...don't sit around the next day...go swimming or something that keeps your muscles moving for an extended time (heck, just move around in the hot tub ..no beer!) you'll see it here a lot...nutrition is king...no workout program, no matter how well designed, is going to be worth 2 sh**ts if you don't do proper during and post workout carbs ans then eat plenty of fats and a moderate amount of protein...too much protein just gets converted to glucose anyway....
    Hope this helps...
