^ was thinking of you when I was doing my measly 1 plate deadlifts today. Hahaha
*sigh*
Sometimes like I feel like throwing a hissy fit is the only way I can get my husband to do anything. I'll ask him nicely once...twice..three times. Space it out to once a week so I'm not constantly nagging. I will sit him down and talk about it...plead with him even. Leave gentle reminders. Give to-do lists. Nothing works. It's only when I break down and go ballistic that he actually takes initiative. I hate it because now blow ups are starting to become my go to reaction...and that is not who I am.

Good question. I always thank him. I try to remember to tell him that it's a big help and it really takes a load off and it means a lot when he helps. I mean I don't throw confetti or bake a cake but I don't think it is necessary when he was just doing regular things that need to be done around the house.
Do I need to be more...celebratory?

If you want the behavior to continue yes. No one wants to do things just because it's their job to do it. My husband is a do-er. He likes the satisfaction he gets from a job well done. He loves the satisfaction of having someone else acknowledge it. I play on that by making a big deal of everything. If I come home and he's cleaned the kitchen I will acknowledge it immediately when I walk through the door. I don't say "hi, honey. How was your day?" I immediately say "Wow! The kitchen is clean! It sparkles! You even scrubbed the sink. And the stove. You normally forget to clean the stove. It looks great." This goes so much farther than "Thank you." It's like when I cook. If he says "dinner was good" big deal right? "If he says "That was the best thing you've ever cooked hands down" guess what I'm going to do more of?

Nice work FFF!
I will second what penny said. I am in the opposite boat. She is fine with a pile of dishes and laundry if that means we go skiing. I am the one who is not Ok with it and have had to learn to ease up.
She is not going to change, so I do my part to notice and acknowledge when she does help out.Journal- One of the Ogres

Thanks ladies and gentleman...yes you're probably right. I do thank him and I try to elaborate but I know I can be a little dry sometimes. I'll do my best to be more empathic when he gets the job done. I know part of it is that I am just very tired and I don't feel enthusiastic about much when I get home but I can't really complain about the situation if my own response isn't helping. Thanks again. Sorry for being a glum chum.

Trust me, I have been where you are a time or two. Just worn down and needing some help/support to get back on top of things.
I typically rant for 5 minutes that x,y,z needs done over the next couple weeks so we can enjoy our downtime and we find some sort of compromise to get us both where we need to be. Just real world stuff,Journal- One of the Ogres

I know if I got a to do list from my significant other, I wouldn't be very happy. I can understand the frustration though.

Thanks again everyone I feel a bit more optimistic about the situation now!
Oh and he was the one that asked for the to-do list because he said I was not specific when I asked for help which is fair enough. I didn't realize how specific I had to be...like wash ALL the dishes and not just the plates and leave all the knives, forks, pots and pans for me. :P
It will get better though. Thanks for all of your realistic and no-nonsense answers. You guys rock.

anyone here use lifting gloves? I've tried to tough it out, but my callouses are getting pretty ridiculous. Advice? Opinions?

I used to use cycling gloves as lifting gloves. They were good for when the bar 'felt' too thin kind of like a cheese grater trying to slice through your hands whilst doing bench work.
They also weren't too bad on pull exercises - no loss of grip, in some cases I would say they allowed me to hold on for longer. Only trouble is, if you have sweaty hands when doing exercise, they may slip over your palms and reduce grip.-101,221, I can see the light - thanks

Mine isn't joint. It doesn't say things like "the dishes." If there are dishes we do them. Don't need a list for that. My list is things I cannot do or won't do like "replace glass on china cabinet door" or "fix bathroom faucet." Like I said my husband is a do-er. The basic stuff is unwritten that everyone does it.

I wear lifting gloves. It's been my experience that women prefer a softer, smoother touch. I like being encouraged to touch.

Some people just read text and don't COMPREHEND, and re-parrot the info and it's quite obvious they Should just STFU because they sound retarded.
