Combine was great to see both perform. It did seem super biased to me in favor of Winston though. I just don't get it.
Live feeds of them both throwing, both make some nice passes, both miss some. None of the commentators say anything negative about either of them while they are watching and comment when both make nice throws in contrast to when the lesser QBs were making all types of footwork and other mistakes. Then everyone says Winston was slightly better - ????
Reports come out that Mariota is killing interviews...Reports come out that Winston is doing well in them as well but has a video with him(only him mind you - and no reference of what happened in Mariota's interview if there even was one with Mucci) and Mariucci where he basically memorizes a play and rewrites it on a whiteboard...Now he is a genius(on Peyton Mannings level lol) and far ahead of Mariota - ????
The bias is strong in this one Im feeling. He is way more charismatic but I still feel there is something hidden in this guy that's gonna screw us in the future. Like for instance watching all of the QBs on the field they are all watching what the other players are doing and you see Winston actively looking for the camera - like the only one to make full eye contact with it - seems like some type of planned PR campaign.
Winston is way better than what we have currently but not better than Mariota imo. Everyone keeps harping on the Pro style offense being a huge positive - i'd agree with that if he didn't throw 18 picks as a so called "master" of this system - please bruh.
Mariota gets downed constantly for not making NFL caliber throws or dropping back or even calling plays in a huddle(rocket science obviously smh). He goes to the combine, has excellent footwork and hits just as many NFL throws as Winston - no one says a word.
End of rant. Hope this Winston kid doesn't burn us in the long run."Fearless, flawless, De Beers in my b!tch ears. N!ggas stuck in they yester years, I'm buyin beers, cheers" - Willie The Kid

Word, I think people look too much into the differences in each of their respective playing system. Who says Mariota can't use his tools to translate to a pro style? Who says winstons pro style experience in college will translate to the NFL? Many pro style qbs taken high ended up being busts.

Check out the latest episode(2/27). Finally an idea of how Mariota did in the private interviews. I still have some hope lls

Thanks for posting, was really insightful. From his report/impression sounds like Mariota came out better from the interviews, but teams went full retard and spent more time focusing on Winston's off field issues then on it. Interesting about both guys on the physical aspect with Winston being a guy needing the workouts and season to stay in better physical shape vs. Mariota who may struggle some to get and stay bigger.

No problem. I'm probably gonna only post Mariota stuff that strays from what we hear or not hear until the draft. Here is an article from King discussing(and in some cases debunking) the myths about Mariota.

Oh but I thought he never had to do anything at the line except receive the snap...

Doesn't look like Tampa is going to be making much of a splash this free agency, maybe they'll grab some depth guys..draft is going to be the main focus.

its good and bad. the past 2 times we've made big splashes in FA its turned out pretty poor. Vjax has been overall good but Goldson sucks and is not played in the proper position, and massively overpayed for Koenen (who also sucks). last year we had a good offseason on paper and as usual it materialized into nothing. Collins is gone, and Johnson will be following his a** shortly after he sucks again this year. I remember Gruden's tinkering in the offseason having mainly negative results too. Building through the draft is the best way to go.
In hindsight Schiano probably called Belichick and was like hey I'm gonna get fired this coming season let me hook you up with Revis. Can't wait to see who we give the Patriots this season.MUFC | Buccaneers | Tomahawk Nation

Checking in to say if the Bucs find an excuse to trade out of number 1 and not draft Winston, I will find another team to cheer for....It will be a move I simply will not be able to get over

What scares is me is that Tampa brings in players from free agency and they do poor and then we let them go/trade them and they become stars on the next team..is it so much the player not panning out or is it our coaching and scheme that doesn't bring the best out of them?

some not panning out, some coaching/scheme. Rumors that we are going to bring in Chris Conte and get rid of Goldson. I am okay with that move, but I'd rather just move Goldson to SS where he belongs. Chris Conte isn't great but hes a guy Lovie feels comfortable with to play at free safety. Lovie getting rid of all the previous regimes guys, and then some of his own mistakes lol. God I'd love to get Wilfork, he'd be such a great partner for McCoy in the middle.

scouts/personnel gonna come to see Winston and leave most impressed by Rashad Greene. Nick O'Leary better improve his 40 time, was pitiful at the combine. Don't think a bad pro day changes anything for Winston since Mariota didn't exactly impress according to reports.

Yeah, Winston would have to miss 50% of his throws or snap his ankle dropping back supporting all that extra weight in order for Mariota to move ahead at this point. Have a feeling we will be missing out on something special. Regardless both will be light years ahead of Beaker

Some thoughts on Winstons pro day:
Nice zip on many throws.
Looked pretty good in the redzone(his back of the endzone corner throw was very nice - if he is the pick VJax and Mike Evans will excel down there).
Not as accurate as some say he is on a good amount of throws even though they were completions. Saw the same things with Mariota as far as receivers having to adjust to balls thrown behind them or slow down for some of the deep balls.
His elusiveness is a huge concern for me. All of the brooms/blocking pad drills just showed it clear as day. He seemed sluggish getting away from scripted obstacles/pressure. Winded a lot early on. He was not shifting his body weight(another concern for me - Kurt Warner pointed it out consistently) on his throws out of the pocket resulting in inaccurate - albeit completed - passes. If he gets injured his weight will be a concern.
Clear frustration as he wears his emotions on his sleeve.
Overall I'd rate it on the same level as Mariota's. The Bucs had nothing bad to say about it as they had nothing bad to say about Mariota's. In fact, if you notice they have said nothing bad about either player this entire offseason so it is what it is.
With our lackluster free agent OL signings I see this rookie year for Jameis having the potential to be disastrous. I can see him having zero time to excel from the pocket and having to be on the run way more than he is accustomed to and frustration setting in as he is not accustomed to losing. People love his attitude and charisma but what happens when you have no time to show off those lauded skills and have to deal with loss after loss? Comebacks in college don't equate to comebacks in the NFL. I guess we will see if/when he is the pick.
I feel Mariota will give us a better shot as I feel whoever the QB is they will have no semblance of a pocket to throw from and there will be a lot of running for your life this year. That was the one of the major problems with our QBs last year - one would stay in the pocket like a statue and get creamed(Glennon) and the other would try to get rid of the ball too fast and make poor decisions(McCown).
Our schedule isn't the hardest but I hope we do well this year. As a lifelong fan I have to root for whoever we pick but my gut says we may be screwed with Winston."Fearless, flawless, De Beers in my b!tch ears. N!ggas stuck in they yester years, I'm buyin beers, cheers" - Willie The Kid

I live in Tallahassee, which is where FSU is, and where he was the QB. I am TIRED of this kid. I'm not saying he's not a decent QB, but I really do think his off field issues are not over. I also think he sounds like a complete moron when he speaks. I rather not see his face and hear his awful speeches/interviews if the Bucs draft him. It's not a matter of IF he messes up, it's WHEN.

I'm surprised V Jax is still on the team given the clear out, there were rumors he was going to get traded last season. I wasn't against trading down if we could of grabbed Cutler, but that didn't happen and Mike Glennon is best QB at the moment. If we take Winston/Mariota and they are legit then we are instantly a better team, a solid QB covers a lot of holes (just look at the Colts). If we traded down and grabbed say a top tackle or defensive end and another first round player does that make us a 8 or 9 win team like a QB could? Probably not, we would see improvement in areas but not a huge jump. lets face is this team has so many holes it can't be covered in just one draft, plus we did nothing but cut players in free agency. Taking a chance on a QB is the quickest way to get this franchise back to relevance.
In other news we traded Goldson and a 7th round pick for a 6th from Washington. Was going to get cut so at least we got a draft pick out of it.MUFC | Buccaneers | Tomahawk Nation

I do think having a Offensive coordinator (if he stays healthy all season) and having Lovie in his 2nd yr as a Bucs coach getting the players in that fit into his system will def help the Bucs get a few more wins. Bucs lost quite a few close games last year. I would like to see them draft a franchise QB rather then trading down. Luckily, it's not every year you can pick whoever you want in the draft, and we have no idea when we could draft a franchise QB again.
