Nervous to go to the gym

Hi, i workout at home but feel that i would get alot more done at the gym. I'm 14, weigh 120 lb and am 5'3". I can do 15 lb for dumbbells, 60 for EZ curl and i can bench 120. Im not a total beginner but im not that experienced. Im kind of nervous to go because im afraid that ill get embarrassed with being so much weaker than everyone else. Is this normal. and can anyone give me some tips to get over this fear.

Search for Elliot Hulse - I'm Too Skinny & Embarassed to Go to Gym, great video.
Hope it helps, i was also very nervous when i first started but i just came over the thought that people go to the gym to improve themself, not to critisize others. They don't care about if you don't lift that heavy or isn't as big as they are. I applaud people that want to make a change of themself.

if your that nervous use machines for your weaker muscles ( biceps) and free weights for things your more comfortable with like your bench. put on music and go for it. no one looks or cares about you unless your one of those brahs that come to the gym with beats headphones, jeans and a hat.

Everyone tends to focus on their own workout and not pay attention to others unless you're doing some heavy lifts or you're a female lifting weights.

No one cares about how small you are to begin. Everybody starts somewhere and remember while your friends are sitting on their ass watching t.v. and not doing chit your lifting and improving. Dont worry about it man.

I think I can help you with this, as I actually just went to the gym for the first time today as well!

I'm in the same position as you, not being able to lift all that much, not really knowing what to do, etc. I walked in there today, there was probably 10-12 people in there (but its a small gym, so thats considered a lot) every guy in there was huge... So I felt embarressed about lowering all my weights, taking off the huge plates and replacing them with 10's and 5's...

I stuck to dumbbells the majority of the time, as I use 30's and seemed less embaressed about that. I agree that nobody really cares what you're doing in the gym... Nobody really noticed me whatsoever. I did get the occasional look or glance, mostly because I kind of stood there at times just looking around because I didn't know what to do next... But i'm assuming people realized i was just new and didn't care.

I advise you to go to a gyms website and look at the pictures, see what machines they have, then go on youtube and figure out how to use the machines, or if you're going for free weights look up some good excercises for them... that way when you get there you have it all planned out, I had bits and pieces planned out but not nearly enough.. as i was still confused when i got there haha

Going again tomorrow, hoping to be more productive this time

You just have to think about this: Nobody goes to the gym and laughs are other people because they too are also afraid of being laughed at.

Theres no way you bench 120 when you only curl 15's and weigh 120. Id like to see proof of that.
