The American Academy of Pediatrics recently released its new Technical Report and Policy Statement on male circumcision, concluding that current evidence indicates that the health benefits of newborn male circumcision outweigh the risks. The technical report is based on the scrutiny of a large number of complex scientific articles. Therefore, while striving for objectivity, the conclusions drawn by the 8 task force members reflect what these individual physicians perceived as trustworthy evidence. To these authors, only 1 of the arguments put forward by the American Academy of Pediatrics has some theoretical relevance in relation to infant male circumcision; namely, the possible protection against urinary tract infections in infant boys, which can easily be treated with antibiotics without tissue loss. The other claimed health benefits, including protection against HIV/AIDS, genital herpes, genital warts, and penile cancer, are questionable, weak, and likely to have little public health relevance in a Western context, and they do not represent compelling reasons for surgery before boys are old enough to decide for themselves.

Ignoring the fact it's not exactly natural and can even be dangerous, circumcision is the worst well-intended decision a parent can make for their son.

For the record, my dad wanted me circumcised but my mum said there was no way in hell, and I'm extremely grateful for it.

And by the way, there are actually way more serious injuries and deaths from circumcision than are recorded. A lot of the time, a death from circumcision will just be jotted down as "blood loss" or some other complication.

You are part of the problem. The "aesthetic" argument is possibly the worst of them all. You don't seem to realize that what is aesthetically pleasing changes significantly depending on where you are in the world and the era you live in. In Europe, the uncut look is favoured. In America prior to about 1900, it was the same. The rate of circumcision is dropping; you haven't the slightest clue what will be considered aesthetically pleasing during your child's lifetime.

Besides, if a woman turned someone down based on their foreskin status they are a shallow, judgemental bitch and not worth your time anyway. When erect, an uncut penis doesn't look very different to a cut one, because the foreskin rolls back. If you're going to subject an infant to a surgical body modification to change such a minor thing, risking all the problems that come with it, then I must say I'd think considerably less of you as a person.

American doctors are culturally biased. Other countries doctors are not. Looking at evidence subjectively without an agenda (non american doctors) is what you should be doing. The evidence that the AAP used to to make that statement is weak or non-existant, and their conclusion disagrees with basically every other legitimate medical organization in the world.
