Want to watch the best military movie (technically documentary) ever? Watch Restrepo. 100% real.
What do you guys think of the Eotech 552? I want to upgrade from my iron sights. Ideally I'd get a 4x ACOG but not about to drop that much on an optic. I don't like the Aimpoint 68 so that's not an option. I've actually never used an Eotech and will definitely check them out in person before buying one but just curious what you guys think.Misc Firearms Crew

Several of us prefer the seemingly-more durable and robust Aimpoint to the EOTech, and the always-on battery life is a very nice bonus.
But then many professionals use EOtechs. 'cuase professionals know what's what.
But then it seems an EOTech was used to shoot bin laden in the face, so you get operator points for that.

Worked a bit on the gun safe today . . . got it bolted down last night (found some good-sized washers so am trying those first before getting too crazy and cutting the metal that I had). Did some reinforcement on one shelf that came with the safe since that will be the main ammo shelf--had some cabinet-grade plywood left from another project and anchored a section to the bottom of the shelf for added strength. Then I built another shelf for right below it. Made that one look decent with some trim and a "veneer" of sorts that I had left over in the garage. Still working on some other shelving/cubbies--just goofing around with some spare plywood to see what might work best. Got one little box for the AK mags and then most of my PMAGS stacked on the lower right.
But got a shelf for the wife and a spot for her 9mm ammo and supplies. Then I get much of the rest for my toys (payback for the master closet and most of the rest of the house besides the garage)

Oh yeah...I got to stand next to/behind, and shoot next to, two different 16" 5.56 rifles with a couple of different muzzle breaks.
They suck
I've shot with the one buy before and he still swears that it isn't any worse than an A2 flash hider. I say his perception is skewed. Yes, he has had other people and stood elsewhere, but I heaven't seen him stand right next to it, and, well...he's wrong. There is a difference. You'd think every single person that shot next to him telling him that would convince him, but he is sure it's no worse.
He's also a huge fan of Georgia Arms ammo, but he had an ammunition induced failure with it yesterday...still a huge fan of it today

lold irl
I figure the three most popular reflex sights are the Eotech 552 (or similar), Aimpoint 68 and Aimpoint Micro. What don't you like about Eotechs? Are they not that durable? I am asking about them because they are used quite a lot in the Army and get put through a lot, I always figured they were pretty durable.
Indeed. Check out the book "War" about the same deployment Restrepo is about. Awesome read.Misc Firearms Crew

Rejection is part of life and if you go around avoiding it, then you aren't going to realize everything this universe has to offer. The quick, sharp pain of rejection you feel is a very momentary fleeting feeling that will disappear. The pain of "what if", however, can last a life time

If you don't own NV, the 512 is a better buy. I have both, and I like them better than my 517 and 556, which sit slightly higher. The 512/552 sits at about absolute co-witness height, 517/556 at lower 1/3, but unlike the Aimpoint the square window of an Eotech makes the lower co-witness more awkward. Also, one little advertised issue with the Eotech I've found is that the reticle is brightest in the middle of the glass, and towards the botton where the irons co-witness it is significantly less bright which makes it potentially an issue in bright daylight.
I just picked up a whole boatload of Aimpoints, and sadly I'm beginning to think that I probably like the Aimpoints a bit better than my Eotechs now. The ACOGs are really good glass, but not nearly as practical for me as the reflex/holo/red dot unmagnified optics.I'm always angry.

Lawrence brah. You speak Latin?
Also: gearing up to start building a new AR-15, ordering a complete upper first any recommendations? Ideally it would be in the FDE color already, but I have a friend who will refinish it in FDE CeraKote for me if it's not already that color, so not a big deal either way on that. You can cheat Death a thousand times... but Death only has to win once

Yep. That is one huge bill along with SB102 (strongest nullification bill in the country). Any treaty, law, or regulation that infringe on our right to have and bear arms is hereby null and void in the state of Kansas. SB102 takes effect upon publication in the register of statutes. Also, firearms made and owned entirely in Kansas doesn't fall under the Interstate Commerce Clause if it doesn't cross state borders. Any firearms manufactured in the State will now require to have a "Made in Kansas" plate attached to the frame.
I recently joined the KSRA due to #2 never before being under such blatant attack by the left and by this Administration. The President of the KSRA is becoming a very popular lady. She's not done yet.

Currently, none yet. I would need to get training first prior to getting one. But, a relative of mine has several (keeps a loaded 9mm in a cupboard). She even has an older colt revolver as decoration (has a western theme in her living room). The revolver is fully functional.
