    Central Nervous System - CNS Activation?

    I tried to search for a few articles after someone told me about central nervous system activation, but none of them actually explained chit or made sense.

    Someone aware me of what the CNS is and how to "activate" it.

    What do you mean activate it?
    It's always active, CNS breaks down to 2 paths sympathetic and parasympathetic
    The 1st is what your body is when your calm and rested, insulin spikes, digestion happens, ect. The latter is flight or flight, blood vessels constrict, HR and BP goes up.

    I was just going based on what some trainer (not "my" trainer) told me.

    So I'm guessing he's talking about the second path?

    What I was told is that for performance, strength, and growth, it wasn't just a mere issue of going through the motions, but that the CNS was important to "activate" (his words not mine.)

    Can someone explain what the hell that means? Are there types of workouts or ways of performing and feeling/thinking while working out in terms of intensity/stress or even just effort exerted that have implications for the CNS?

    I think he's referring to the mind muscle connection. Your going to get better growth doing your reps with excellent form and slow speed to fully understand what muscle your pumping. When you do this and think about it "activates" the neurons in your muscle better, they have the ability to recruit more muscle fibers via acetacholine neurotransmitters. As opposed to horrible form and doing fast reps you maybe using other muscles to get the weight moving. Mind muscle connection is key to achieving maximum muscle growth, and to avoid looking lk a beta phaggot

    When your running, parasympathetic nervous system is active, ofcourse it's going to be higher intensity there adrenaline being pumped through your blood stream, that's the natural response for that, as for squats. Legs are a huge muscle group, I can see that happening as well. Flight or fight response man

    Your muscle fibers are a part of the somatic nervous system, as part of the Peripheral Nervous System. These are the voluntary muscles. Maybe he was talking about using more motor units (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_unit) but this isn't something that you can actively do either. The way you activate more motor units is by lifting heavier lol.

    Once you have performed a proper dynamic warmup, a number of exercises can be used to light up your CNS before your heavy training. Before squatting, seated box jumps, jump squats or kettlebell swings are all excellent options. Prior to deadlifting, perform cleans or snatches from a dead start or beyond the range kettlebell swings (these KB swings will not only light up your CNS, they are also great builders of power off the floor and will improve hip mobility). To prepare yourself for bench training, plyo pushups or medball chest passes will get you ready to explode the bar off of your chest. It is imperative that these exercises are not performed in a manner to fatigue the muscles, rather they should be performed with maximal intensity and in short durations
