Chin up bar that WON'T break my door frame?

Hello all

Can anybody recommend me a good doorway chin up bar for heavy weighted chin ups?

I was doing weighted chin ups today I heard very ominous sounding cracking noises coming from my door frame, and also the paint is all cracked around it (the max weight of the bar I have is supposed to be 100kg)

That's the kind of bar I have already mate.

You could try the other type of doorframe bar like this



You'll still hear cracks and snaps from your doorframe. Seems you have a generally weak one.

Whatever doorway chin up bar you get for your home, just be prepared to ruin the area around the door a little bit.

So any indoor pull-up bars that could comfortably hold a weight some way over 100kg (220lbs)? I don't have space for power rack unfortunately

The Ironmaster Super Bench has a pull up bar attachment. The pull up bar part of it detaches when not in use and can be leaned up against a wall or possibly stored beneath a bed. The Super Bench can be stood up on end when not in use.

I use this one, I got the "Iron Gym" a few years ago and it's still going strong. I only weigh about 150lbs but when I was at my strongest I had an additional 45lbs in plates so the Iron Gym comfortably held 195lbs.

Currently, I'm working up again at 15lbs of plates in a backpack.

Door frame undamaged though black marks are where the foam rests on the frame. I've since put wax paper at the foam rests which stopped additional markings.

Here's the photo:



This could work depending upon the spacing of the vertical supports and the construction of your doorway. You will want to locate the studs above the door frame and make sure that their spacing is the same as that as the vertical supports on the pull up bar.

If they're not, you can mount it to piece of plywood and then drill holes at appropriate points in the plywood for mounting above your door. I did this for a couple of climber's hang boards that I also use for pull ups. Here is a photo. Note the position of the various lag screws.

hes in the uk so i doubt he has a stud wall,
i was going to put a pull up bar in my wall too (brick) but every builder i spoke to advised against it.

I was wondering about that. What kind of walls do you have in the UK (besides brick) ?

How about a purpose built pull up station? Several people make those. Or you could make your own out of 4x4s. Might be cheaper than having to rebuild door frames.
