Pros and cons of donating blood? (thinking about it)

thinking about donating blood Monday, what are some pros and cons...besides being a "generous" person.

One huge con I can think of is that I will have to lift before and not after the blood draw....

a thread the other day mentioned how even though the blood is donated, hundreds are spent to test it and get it ready for use then the hospital charges the patient a ton.

All in consideration, I'd say do it. So long as the blood is useable, you will be helping someone, gotta feel good knowing that.

Pros- There will be blood for people when they need it.

Cons- Your blood is not "donated", it is actually sold (for profit), first to the hospital, and then to the patients. If you're ok with getting a pat on the back as payment while a hospital collects thousands of dollars for what you gave up for free, then more power to you.

I've donated blood, it was a cool experience. Would definitely do it again. One piece of advice for you is after I donated I could eat 2k calories easily in one sitting. So go find a nice all you can eat restaurant and go to town. Apparently donating 500ml takes your body 630 calories worth of energy to replace.

Serious? that's neat. Is there a certain universal amount of time they have the needle in you when drawing blood?

I could be wrong cause it was a while ago, but I think it was 10-20 mins or something.

It was also lolzy because they put you in a room that gives you one last chance to secretly say if you have AIDS or something. She left the room so I could fill out the form, comes back in just as I'm about to check one of the boxes, seeming to her like I've been contemplating it for a while and frantically runs out of room haha. That part of it is so if you do have something you can still donate, but they will just throw it out later secretly so you don't have to take the walk of shame.

Donating blood / plasma can help save many lives OP you could donate and then make a thread showing proof you did and you'll get repped

You can also get paid for donating plasma, Not sure how much.. but hey its money

Cons - need to eat a cookie after so you don't pass out

    needles
Don't be so quick to throw away your life. No matter how disgraceful or embarrassing it may be, you need to keep struggling to find your way out until the very end.

*Misc mods get a bad rap, they're pretty awesome (crew)*

pro: you basically get a free health scan, if there is something wrong in your blood (infection for instance), they call and tell you, and cant use your blood.

I used to donate plasma twice a week in college for dat der weed money. Back then it was 50 bucks for donated twice per week, which was the max.

About 10-20 minutes seems about right. I donated blood last month, but I found myself concentrating on the muscle tensing exercises that the nurses told me to do, to keep blood pressure. You feel a little light headed after a while, but (at least in the UK) you're not able to leave until you feel fine, and if you start feeling worse then you'll have the nurses to look after you.

I did find that my right arm hurt around my elbow (where I had the needle) for the rest of the night when I had my arm straight, and also when I was doing hanging knee raises for a couple of days afterwards, so I just took it easy on my arm until it no longer hurt doing them.
