Hi everyone,
Last week I finished my first cut and I thought I would share my first-timers results to give hope to other n00bs who may be feeling helpless like I was.
I went from 60.1kg and 27% bodyfat to 51.1kg and 15% bodyfat (by DEXA scan) in 5 months and lost 50cm from my measurements overall.
I started out wanting to bulk (the fun part) but was far too fat, so I had to cut first. It took me around 5 months. I used a high carb, low fat diet and used flexible dieting/IIFYM to hit my macros each day. I have posted monthly progress pictures on my bodyspace. While I still have some junk in the trunk that I could continue to diet off; I don't feel the need to keep dieting as I am not competing and don't care about being super lean. I am happy where I am and will spend the next weeks/months reverse dieting and then transition into a slow bulk. My goals were never aesthetic and I never had a goal weight, I just wanted to be lean enough to bulk without becoming obese!
I am blown away by my results (I thought I would get to 20% bf and 55kg at best) and can't thank Kimm4 enough for coaching me through it. I've had Kim setting my macro/calorie targets and hitting them however I like. I eat whenever and whatever I want (no meal timing nonsense and no foods are off limits). She is a fabulous coach and I would recommend her to anyone looking for guidance. I couldn't have done it without her, she makes dieting painless and easy, it didn't feel like I was on a diet most of the time! She stopped me from making silly mistakes with cardio and refeeds which I would blunder doing it on my own.
I've taken the paragraph above from my previous post of my 12 and 16 week progress; it gives more details and can be found here: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...0915073&page=1
I actually ate more carbs than I ever have in my life and I have learned a lot about my body. My best advice is to get a good coach (if financially possible) and don't be afraid of white carbs. I eat risotto every night and have for the duration of my diet. Calories in/calories out. Simple.

Naturally after "my first cut" comes "my first bulk"... its time to kick up the food, kick up the training and get some size!
Thanks for reading!

Said it before, worth saying again, you've done great. This is such a great testimonial to IIFYM.
I shared your post with my 62 year old mother, lol, she doesn't believe you're the same person. She also doesn't believe that you ate many carbs, or "bad" foods, smh.Bender, part of being human is having self-control. -Amy Wong
