Going to college was the worst decision i ever made.

This is something for you young brahs to think about that are planning on going to college.

I have two classes left before i graduate with Accounting/management dual degree. My plan is to get a part time job now to gain some experience and look for full time job when i graduate in December as well as start on my CPA exam.

However everywhere i look everyone is looking for experience even the crappy book keeping jobs or payroll jobs that pay 9- 15 hr.

Just saw a job that pays 9/hr , 4 hour shifts wanting 1 year accounting experience, 60wpm (i type fast but even i type 55wpm) with 80% accuracy and 1 year college completion ..ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME ALL THIS for a 9/hr job that makes you work 4hr shifts. BRB going to work making like 20 dollar a day after gas and taxes.

Saw another one where it ws 13-15/hr , 3-5 year experience full payroll , and BS in accounting. SO YOU ARE TELLING ME someone would actually work for 13/ hr that has 5 year experience in accounting. If that is what my life is gonna be in 5 years after i graduate i am quitting school today lol.

I WAS making 16/hr at 21 years old as a college student being a warehouse supervisor.

I am like 30k in debt.

If i joined the army or even stayed at my job (i quit so i can go to school full time) i would have a house payed of by now. As it stands i am 30k in debt and applying for ****ing 12/hr jobs at 26 year old.

EVEN the best case scenario where i start working for one of the big 4 making 45-50k workign 60 hrs a week is not THAT great considering IT IS THE BEST CASE SCENERIO.

Dont even start with the networking bs.... i am the most social person in my classes and i have asked many people to see if the can get me in their company and they always come back with the same answer..."i asked my manager but they say they are not hiring right now"

Typing is easy to get faster at, especially if you're stuck at 55wpm. Its really not that fast. Also, being social and networking are not the same thing bruh. I admit not everyone should go to college. But you're in the tough part of the postsecondary education process and you haven't made it any easier for yourself. It's best to give advice to people when you've gone through it all.
Start now, everyday you wait is a day you'll regret.

I was at Uni but I fuked around and didn't focus on school and ended up leaving.. I go to CC right now, finishing up in a semester or so... Most likely will enlist after though.. I have to say, I'm saving a **** ton of money and will have literally no debt when I get out.. Also currently working part-time and saving some money on the side.

Just hate the fact that I'm living at home while all my buddies are enjoying the Uni life.. I sure as hell miss the dorm life. But I don't know if its really worth the debt. lol

    You also need to:

    a) network
    b) get whatever experience while in college

if you don't have a very high GPA

sorry bruh but keep hustling cuz

E: lol, networking means attending information sessions, career fairs, conferences, calling up industry people, talking with faculty who are in the field... not talking to your classmates only. did you get that from a person who said they're in frats to "network"? lol

Avoid as much college debt as possible at ALL COSTS! For the vast majority of people the CC transfer route is the best option. Unless you get sports/academic scholarships go the cheapest route.

Currently making over 10hr working from home and also about to start a small home business, not a dime in debt from school, have my transfer plans ready to go and worst case looking at 14k debt, more likely it will be around 9k or less.

Well yeah it was a terrible choice YOU made to go to college without researching where to make money.

I just had 3 friends of mine start jobs as 3rd Mates on Off-Shore Supply Vessels making 600/day for 4 weeks on/2 weeks off. 144k/year.

You jelly OP? I get my 3rd Mate license in August. $$$$$$

Nah i been talking to my professors too. They all love me and are willing to give me awesome refrences. They all know me by name and i have taken all 3 intermediate classes with same professor have even gone to launch with some of them. I am also in ascend group which is an organization that pretty much meets with the big 4 recruiters once a month. SO i am doing everything i can but still like i said even the best case scanario is 15/hr with big 4.

College degrees are investments in the future, simple as that. Every study out there shows how much you earn with college degrees or advanced degrees. So yeah when you walk out of college in your 20s with a chit load of debt and poor job prospects due to the economy you think "Phuck my life". Check back in 30 years compared to your friends that didn't go to college.

College degree has to be looked at as a very long term investment. It is like a business, start up costs are a bitch and you are swimming in debt, but overtime a good business will get back those losses and make money. Difference is most business fail while on average most college graduates benefit greatly.

Kinda know those feels OP. Did accounting, had a variety of work experiences, but nothing too accounting focused. Recession hit right when I was applying for internships, so many of them just dried up. There were 700+ students applying for some chit job as a part time accounting/admin clerk for 7-11, with most of the hours in admin.

Thankfully I networked (I was a student in a mentorship program and my mentor was a super chill dude) and landed a job upon grad and worked from there. Made chit pay, but it's gotten better. Also did some side contractual work to make extra $. If I didn't have that connection, I'm not sure where I'd be right now.

    Keep your chin up OP!

I didnt go to college to party and smash bishes. I could do that without the college scene as i live in Atlanta and its full of clubs and sloots. I went to college thinking when i graduate i would be able to get a 50k a year job fairly easy and work my way up. No i am realizing that getting a 50k a year job is extremely hard.

I went to school taking full time classes for 5 years in order to have 150 credit hours and be CPA ready. I am 26 and again that is the BEST CASE SCANARIO. When i was 21 i was making 30k a year as warehouse supervisor and they were willing to promote me to manager forking 55hrs a week making 55k a year. I declined/quit because i would not be able to go to college if i had done that. So you can understand why i am dissapointed at the 50k a year for 60hrs a week after i put in 5 years of hard studying and 30k in debt. Again you are 21 i know 50k seems alot to you.

I did research it. I honestly enjoy being a leader and would much rather manage or supervise people but everywhere i looked they said management degree sucks so i went with something safe too accounting where everyone said you can get job easy and eventually make 100k a year.

Still i see articles on yahoo saying top 5 majors to get into and every time accounting is one of them. SUCH BS

"Networking" is overrated, unless you're talking about networking with blood relatives or people who owe you something. At the end of the day, no matter what you do, people are only as interested in you as the service that you can provide them. If you can't make them money, then your networking skills are irrelevant. And in an economy that is saturated by unemployed people who are both educated and experienced, that only makes it that much harder for people coming right out of college.

I am thankful that I learned a trade and can earn $20-$30/hour regardless to how the economy is. OP, I suggest you go to trade school after graduating if you can't find work.

College shouldn't be looked at as a financial investment, it should be looked at as an opportunity to become more educated, have a better understanding of how the particular field you're studying works and as an opportunity to develop yourself as a professional. After all of the money spent, I think college is worth it, so long as you're in a practical major.

Wait so lowering the bar to the point that almost anyone could get a college degree ruined the value of an education? Mind = blown
