Just asking because :
1. Seems like it would be additional calories not needed esp more than one per day and
2. If your in a caloric deficit than your not going to be building muscle anyway so wouldn't it be kind of useless?

1. Fit it into your calories, just like you would a hamburger. It's just another protein source if you choose to drink it.
2. First, that's not necessarily true, and second, cutting with inadequate protein (from whatever sources you choose) leads to accelerated loss of existing muscle.
That said, liquid protein on a cut is not ideal, just because most folks find that it doesn't fill you up.

Protein can help boost your metabolism. The reason is because protein takes a lot of energy to metabolize. Hence, a meal packed with a lot of protein helps increase your metabolic rate by at least 30% for almost 12 hours at a time. Not only that, a study in 2008 published by New England Journal of Medicine found that the test group who took more protein was found to lose a lot more weight.
Personally, after a protein shake I'm feeling really full and satisfied for at least the next two hours. I usually take one in the morning when I'm running late or when I get home tired and don't have the energy to cook."When you go the extra mile, it's never crowded"

I have protein shakes on a cut with milk, gets my protein intake up when I'm on the go and fills me up. Some dont like them, its like eating wings and fries. As long as it fits and it suits your lifestyle it doesnt matter
The body doesn't struggle to lose weight...the mind does - keep measurements, keep your sanity.

So much broscience...
You need protein while cutting to maintain current muscle mass, its essential. No its not going to make you noticeably burn more fat by increasing your metabolism, it'll help the weight lost be mostly fat instead of muscle however. And most people don't do them on cutting because when you can only get say 1700 calories a day I want them all to be as filling as possible, aka chicken breast.
