What are some good fat burning supplements for women?

    Hello,
I have never taken any kind of supplements before. I just work out regularly but I have been looking into fat burning supplements. I am not overweight but I do want to lose some fat around my stomach although its still fairly flat. I find myself usually confused when I look into fat burning supplements. I come across so many in grocery stores, ads, even online but honestly I just can't put my finger into which one I should get. I've read articles on google too on fat burning supplements or "the best supplements" for women but then again there are just too many. I just want to hear from a person who has experience with it and has used it?
Anyways, your reply is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Firstly, are you in a calorie deficit? I only read that you work out regularly. Fat 'burners' only work in a deficit. If you are in a calorie deficit:

Ephedrine is something that is shown to work but most fat burners out there suppress appetite and that is pretty much it. People are then amazed by how good the supplement was when all they really did was eat less.

Also, it can be very hard to tell if a fat burner is actually doing anything if its used on top of a calorie deficit and exercise.

An excellent fat burner is just simply caffeine due to its appetite suppression. I drink coffee all day (probably too much) and it keeps my appetite in check till the evenings when I eat a large meal.

No I am not in a calorie deficit I eat more than I burn. I didn't know fat burners worked that way. I eat pretty healthy though but I don't really count calories. If something is unhealthy, or full of fat I always avoid it except once in a while depending on the occassion. I drink coffee ALOT. In fact sometimes too much to keep up with full load of school and work. I drink about between 3 to 6 cups of coffee.

Its a common misconception. I highly recommend you read the sticky threads. You can eat 'unhealthy foods', fat doesn't make you fat, excess calories does. If fat burners worked that way or even at all then wouldn't everyone that buys them be slim?

A life changing purchase I made, which may sound stupid, is an electronic food scale. Counting my calories adds up to no more than 5 minutes each day. Using a site like MyFitnessPal makes it incredibly efficient. If you eat a lot of the same foods then they will be in your database already, you only need to enter the amount you eat.

Hey thanks for sharing those links! I am a noob so that thread is perfect for me.

lol electronic food scale.. doesn't seem like its for me haha
OH and also, I don't think I can go in a calorie deficit but would it work if i try it for like a few days a week? What are your thoughts on this?
I won't be able to do it everyday because I need energy, but if its twice a week or something I can give it a shot and see?

Get a food scale and weigh stuff. Simple.
You have to do it every day. You can't just decide to track calories for 3 days and not the other 4. It doesn't work that way. How do you know that you will be lacking energy if you smear at a deficit? If you aren't able to lose weight already then you are underestimating how much you eat now as it is and could spare to cut some.

Either you do it and see the results you want or you don't and just accept and enjoy the way you look now. There is no half assing this.

SRS? What do you need more energy for? I mean, most folks on this forum are eating at a deficit to lose fat and they have enough energy to go to work, get to the gym, etc. This is mental, you need to make a choice and stick with it. Eating at a deficit for 2 days and eating surplus at 5 days will do nothing positive for you...Unless you are trying to gain. But you are here to burn fat. So, you know what to do, right?

Fat burning products are amongst the most highly marketed supps out there. However, they are often blurred with proprietary blends and you end up paying a lot for something thats mostly composed of simple anhydrous caffeine. Burning fat comes with diet and training, as cliche as that sounds. You should pick up some caffeine (costs about 5 bucks) and take maybe 400 mg a day, one pill first thing in the morning and one pill right before you train. Other than that, count your macros religiously and put in a solid amount of cardio and guarantee you will see excellent results. Good luck!

But is it really necessary to get a food scale and weigh stuff? Does everyone do that? This is just the first time I've heard of it, and I guess I have A LOT to learn about lol.
I work out hard, sometimes my legs hurt and my arms hurt, isn't that a sign of progress? I find it hard to even sit down sometimes because it hurts my legs.
I admit I don't work out every day, but if its intense for 3 days I guess that doesn't work ? Or am I just being lazy for the other 4 days.... but I don't want to be lazy..
It's just hard for everyday, especially if you have 8hr shifts and full load of classes and assignments. But I do want results!
Anyways, write me back please and thank you!

Yes now that I do think about it, you are absolutely right! I guess my mind is making excuses for being lazy.
Also, what about when you don't get enough sleep?
I've heard that if you don't get enough sleep then its not good to work out because you can gain weight if your body is overworked.
On bad days, I sleep sometimes about 4-5 hours, but I do have days where I get full sleep. And those are the days in which I mostly work out.

Thank you, I realize I need to do some research on this.

Oh yes and I just read the forum, there's more terminology I need to familiarize myself with. Thanks!

I didn't mean to give such a short answer and seem cold...just a ton of info already available in the stickies and so many new members don't read any of them. You'll get great support here if you show that you're putting in your own efforts as well.

At the beginning of my cut I was a 200 lb male, working 40hrs a week, full time college student, and a bodybuilder. And I survived on 1700 calories a day. So yes, everyone that wants serious results, weighs food and counts calories. And even works out if they're tired. Don't make excuses.

Lets put it this way.. how serious are you about losing bodyfat? If you can somehow "guess" and eat at the perfect deficit, great! But chances of that are probably not going to be good. I tried guessing for YEARS... doing cardio, weight training, eating more nutritious foods, etc.. and nothing ever worked. Then I realized when you count calories and know what you are doing, you can basically achieve any goal you want with will-power.
Learning something new here every single day... and I'm still not sure if I understand : /

Yes if you want results. You probably know lots of people that cut out carbs, go on a liquid diet or something stupid/similar. Stuff like weight watchers is just another form of calculating calories with their points system. In my opinion they make it more complicated.

When you weigh food you know exactly how much you can eat in a day which is beneficial in so many ways. People that don't count calories can lose weight simply because they eat lower calorie foods/less food in general. If you want to see consistent scale reductions and body changes then weigh your food.

Yeah it did seem a bit harsh but then I admit you're also right.
There are tons of stickies to a point in which I am experiencing information overload with everyone asking different questions and hundreds of posts and answers. I just didn't know where to look or what to click so might as well ask ? lol.
And thats a good thing with new members increasing! :P

Actually thats kind of what I am doing right now - "guessing" things and assume from what my instincts tell me.
Actually, there is this program I have recently been following here, its a 3 days work out and 4 days rest and its called fat burning for women.

I do fine in school. It's just how bad do you want it ? I want to be successful in everything I do, and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to do it. I take rest days but they're scheduled, its not because I'm tired or sore. There's a difference between being sore and over training, my guess is you're just sore. Which will eventually go away when you're used to working out.

Fat burners have their uses but it always comes down to nutrition. No supplement [That is legal] can save you from an insufficient diet. Once you have that in check, you can consider the cost value and effectiveness of supplements [Which, by definition, is supposed to strengthen your efforts, not carry them].

It's really not as daunting as it sounds. Weighing and logging is simple. It'll take maybe 10 minutes tops out of your day.

I've been living in a deficit for over a year, never have I felt drained or excessively tired. And that includes when I was working 2 jobs. 5 days a week 7am to 9pm.
