Lifting while Cutting strategies (high reps or not)

    Stats: 45 yr old, 6', 190#, 23% bf, Ectomorph

Just finished a dirty bulk and am starting to cut. My goal is to get to 170 and around 12% bf on a slow cut.

I've been lifting heavy and am the strongest I've ever been. The past few weeks I've been doing 5 rep x 5 sets. I had planned on switching to high reps and shorter rest as I'm starting the cut. But now I'm wondering.... how about I continue with the heavy lifting for another month or so while I'm cutting. Since I do not necessarily need fast results from the cut, does this make sense? Then maybe in another month switch to hi rep.

Curious if other guys continue to lift heavy low reps while cutting.

    Thanks for any opinions/feedback.

Maintain the weight on the bar, lower volume if necessary.
    I do 5x5 on a bulk, 3x5 on a cut (recovery issues.)

See what works for you OP.

Do not do high rep. High rep when cutting and low rep when bulking is broscience at its finest. Keep lifting heavy! If you find 5x5 is too much volume you can reduce to 3x5 but keep adding weight and do not do low weight, high reps. You will lose hard earned muscle.

Ignore high rep or low rep because it's relative at this point. That's something to consider for your next bulk. If you want to keep the muscle mass you've built, you want to keep lifting with the same weight you're working out with now. Just make sure you hit your macros and cut slow.

I've always heard to stay with the same program, and if you have to sacrifice one, drop volume instead of weight.

"Low weight, high reps" seems to be working on the idea that you're lifting weights to lose fat... you aren't! You are lifting weights to maintain muscle while you cut calories to lose fat.

    Best of luck!
