I run a business and we do a lot of cold-calling and door to door marketing. Lots of people ARE dicks, but the majority is very nice with my employees and I.
- For what business do you work?
- At what times do you call?
- What's your opening speech?
Some basic questions but they make a world of difference on people's attitude when they hear you for the first time. You really only have 5 seconds to talk to get them to like youI run faster horny than you do scared

Your opener probably sucks and makes a bad impression. You should introduce yourself and business, than try an use an open ended question that should lead to you mentioning your service. Ie if you sold storage equipment. "If you could change anything about your warehouse, what would it be?"
I don't know what kind of product you sell but if its of any value you should only be trying to call and make an appointment where you can do a real sales presentation

As soon as some douchebag bothers me at work and asks to speak to the "Marketing Director" or the "IT Manager" or some other generic title, I say "No" and hang up.
You've wasted 10 more seconds of my time than you deserve. If I want a new service, or I want a better deal on my current service I will do the research myself you parasite.

In this thread alot of people don't understand a large part of the business process (how do you think alot of SME's survive and get new clients?) do you think they solely rely on word of mouth and magic money pouring in.
Edit: I should clarify I'm not talking about calling someone up and trying to sell them a set of knives, I'm talking about a business offering their services to another i.e in the industry I work in digital -> web/online marketing/mobile servicesYNWA - L.F.C

Pls go, you have no idea of what you're saying. All business aren't coca cola, we don't have 30 million to invest in marketing to create a need. Aggressive marketing is often the only and best way to get customers for a smaller business.
This. Your opener is your only chance to make the person forget he's being interrupted, you only have a few seconds to drag him in the convo and create an interestI run faster horny than you do scared

brb, chilling with friends, some random ***got calls to interrupt you
brb, reading a book, some random ***got calls and disrupts you
brb, watching a cool TV show, some random ***got calls and disrupts you
brb, doing homework, some random ***got calls and disrupts you
brb, at the gym lifting heavy, some random ***got calls and disrupts you
Now you see how annoying it is? I never wanted any of the services that cold callers usually offer.
Also: even if your opener is good, it just delays the inevitable nature of the cold call, which pisses me off because you just wasted an extra 20-30 seconds of my time trying to sprout bull**** and keep me hooked.Repped: 100x
Modnegged: 1x

Because you are bothering me to take my money in the guise of politeness. You don't care how my day is. You want my money. You'll lie to me to get it. Fukk you, *******.

I remember watching mission impossible 3 and the antagonist says "u learn alot about a guy when u see the way he treats those he doesnt have to treat well"
if someone cold calls me I just tell them no thanks and bounce, I dont try to intentionally be an *******. Even more annoying are bitches who do it on the phone because u know DAMN WELL 90% are pussies and wouldnt be so abrasive in real life.
I respect the fact that most people ar ejust trying to earn a living
