Sen. Reid Beefs up “Base Bill” to
Destroy Gun Ownership
"Unholy alliances" could become a concern
We now know a lot more about what's going to happen with gun control legislation than we did a few days ago.
First, the number of the bill we are fighting is S. 649. Harry Reid introduced it on Thursday and brought it directly onto the Senate calendar. This means the bill can now come up at any time — probably soon after the Easter recess is over.
Second, the bill is a lot worse than even we anticipated.
We expected it to contain the Veterans Gun Ban, which would mean that you would sell, gift, or raffle a gun in America at the risk of a 15-year prison sentence because of something you didn't know about the veteran/buyer.
But, surprisingly to us, the Far Left has convinced Reid to include the original Schumer version of the Universal Registry Bill. This would ban private sales of firearms, unless purchasers first get the permission from the government. If Senators can pass this de facto registration bill, they will be well on the way to confiscation (see, for example, Governor Andrew Cuomo in New York, who has a gun owner registry and has called for gun confiscation). If this bill is passed, Senators will claim that they "broke the back" of gun owners in America.
Third, there is still every evidence that Reid will move to proceed to the bill under "regular order," which means he will need 60 votes to advance to the "gun control buffet."
GOA has been talking and making our case with a host of Senate Republicans, and we would hope that everyone in the Senate understands the importance of stopping the "motion to proceed" to Reid's gun control legislation.
Fourth, as we predicted, anti-gun zealots have begun to use the "ObamaCare Paradigm" to threaten, bribe, and coerce senators into submission on the most far-reaching aspects of gun control, including Feinstein's proposal to ban shotguns, rifles and handguns that millions of Americans legally own. So if the "motion to proceed" to S. 649 is adopted with 60 votes, then Feinstein's ban could be passed in the Senate with only 50 votes (plus Biden). Click here for a more technical explanation as to how this would occur.
Already, articles are being published to intimidate any Democratic Senator who votes against any gun control and threatening them with the prospect of facing an anti-gun primary challenger — just like we saw on ObamaCare.
Fifth, there may be unholy alliances at work which could succeed in achieving a dangerous gun control compromise. One Capitol Hill newspaper is now reporting that "Sen. Joe Manchin and the National Rifle Association are quietly engaged in private talks on a proposal to broaden background checks on purchasers of firearms." We hope this is not true, however you should be aware of this report and use whatever contacts you have to prevent this from happening. Be assured, you can rely on Gun Owners of America to never engage in any compromises!
ACTION: The strategy remains: We need to defeat this bill by filibustering and voting down the "motion to proceed" to S. 649. Please contact your senators and distribute this alert far and wide.
Click here to send your Senators a prewritten email.

WHY gun control is itself unconstitutional.
Long read but a great one.
http://thombone.com/
I have news for some of you.
THE most important word of the Second Amendment?
Without a doubt, it’s this seemingly innocuous word: “right”
Why? Well, let’s look at the legal definition of it: http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/right
“right 1) n. an entitlement to something, whether to concepts like justice and due process, or to ownership of property or some interest in property, real or personal. These rights include various freedoms, protection against interference with enjoyment of life and property, civil rights enjoyed by citizens such as voting and access to the courts, natural rights accepted by civilized societies, human rights to protect people throughout the world from terror, torture, barbaric practices and deprivation of civil rights and profit from their labor, and such American constitutional guarantees as the right to freedoms of speech, press, religion, assembly and petition. 2) adj. just, fair, correct. (See: civil rights, marital rights)”
Now, I know most people cannot be bothered to read all of that (too much work or simply unable to grasp), I get that. So let me extract the key phrase of it: “an entitlement to something”
In the case of Amendment #2? The RIGHT to “keep and bear arms”. Now, for the purist, it can be said that this doesn’t even mention guns, specifically. It doesn’t. That’s the beauty of it.
Let’s look at the definition of “arms”, shall we?
http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/arms
“ARMS. Any thing that a man wears for his defence, or takes in his hands, or uses in his anger, to cast at, or strike at another. Co. Litt. 161 b, 162 a; Crompt. Just. P. 65; Cunn. Dict. h.t.
2. The Constitution of the United States, Amendm. art. 2, declares, “that a well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” In Kentucky, a statute “to prevent persons from wearing concealed arms,” has been declared to be unconstitutional; 2 Litt. R. 90; while in Indiana a similar statute has been holden valid and constitutional. 3 Blackf. R. 229. Vide Story, Const. Sec. 1889, 1890 Amer. Citizen, 176; 1 Tuck. Black. App. 300 Rawle on Const. 125.” (But somebody needs to update this because BOTH of those have now been trumped by this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/1...n_2278114.html and Illinois was the LAST holdout state that did not at least have a way to get a Concealed Weapons Permit. Now all 50 states allow carry in one form or another).
Anyway and again, let’s extract the key phrase of the above definition: “Any thing that a man wears for his defence, or takes in his hands, or uses in his anger, to cast at, or strike at another.”
Well, kids, that can mean a HELL of a lot more than guns. In fact, it can mean ANYTHING that can be used as a weapon. Knives, sprays, swords, sticks and stones, smartphones with sharp edges, mud balls, whatever.
Therefore, sans a repeal or alteration of the 2nd Amendment BY ANOTHER AMENDMENT (which is the ONLY WAY to alter the Constitution in this country because it IS the Supreme (meaning, highest) Law of the land), there is, actually NO LAW that can technically be passed that limits in ANY way our individual right to “keep and bear arms” that is Constitutional. That’s right… if you’re paying close attention and UNDERSTAND Constitutional Law, you will already know that EVERY SINGLE FEDERAL LAW on the books that is not already included in the Constitution OR an Amendment is Unconstitutional.
And We the “People” can fix that SIMPLY BY ASSERTING OUR RIGHTS. They get away with this because we generally stay stupid and do NOT assert our rights– which has the SAME EFFECT as waiving them.
Get it?
So do I worry about them “coming to take my guns” (which I have NEVER said I have or do not have, in fact I have NEVER given my PERSONAL opinion on any of this, I have only been playing devils advocate)? Well, if I had any, I wouldn’t be worried… UNLESS there was a Constitutional Amendment banning them or repealing the 2nd… which there isn’t.
You see, we CAN waive our rights but they CANNOT take them from us. And THAT is what they have been trying to get us to do. I’ll prove it. Keep reading. They do it by trying to confuse us. And here is the major point of how they do it:
Now this next part is important, VERY important. It concerns “rights” vs. “privilege” — of which there are HUGE differences. Confuse those two and you ARE confused. And flat out wrong about both.
To those that say that gun ownership is a privilege? You are DEAD WRONG. Here is the legal definition of “privilege” for you:
http://legal-dictionary.thefreedicti...com/Priviledge
“privilege n. a special benefit, exemption from a duty, or immunity from penalty, given to a particular person, a group or a class of people.”
Do I have to extract any phrases from that?? Pretty clear, yes? It’s a BENEFIT.
To explain this in “TV level English”?
A right CANNOT be taken away by anyone but it CAN be waived voluntarily.
A privilege is an OPTIONAL BENEFIT. You may or may not have it. You can gain it. You can keep it. You can lose it. They can take it. You can waive it. You can be disqualified from it. Etc. Etc.
Those who TRY to force law abiding citizens into a way of thinking that gun ownership (for example) is a privilege are ignoring the 2nd Amendment entirely. In fact, people like that probably don’t even have a clue what the Constitution actually says. Or they are “Anti-Federalists” who do not want the Constitution. People that fall for this bull**** are uninformed suckers. And that’s fine… there are plenty of countries that they can go live in that don’t have one.
They say that “knowledge is power” yes? Well, these folk, they ain’t got none o’ that there power stuff.
The media would have you think that “gun control” and “gun laws” are about the “privilege” of owning a gun. BUT, if you take the time to understand what I bothered to write out here for you.. .then you’ll know more than most people do about the TRUTH of the ****ED UP GAME they are playing with our rights.
It isn’t and never was about GUNS. It IS about trying to get us into a way of thinking… of confusing the difference between rights and privileges… until we are TRICKED into waiving our rights.
We must NEVER allow them to do this. EVER.
If you don’t like guns, then don’t buy one. And do make sure to assert your First Amendment “privilege” and put a big “gun free zone” sign on your front door so that the bad guys know that if they DO try to invade your home, that they will need to leave their guns outside. So feel free to do that, enjoy your own life and stay out of other peoples’ business. After all, each of us DOES have a “right” to be stupid. Yes, stupidity is a right, not a privilege. How do I know this? Well, I see it asserted almost everywhere I look. In fact, I’d say it is the ONE right that most Americans hold closest to their heart, nowadays. The problems we face today are there because the people who work for a living are now out numbered by those who vote for a living.
