How Much do Personal Trainers make In Canada/Goodlife Fitness measly reps ALL PTs IN

Thinking of being a personal trainer, I know the first year or two are gonna be a grind, but once I save up the money to make a home gym in a basement, then I can could independent part time until I have a good client base then maybe switch to independent full time.

ANy PT's advice about starting out and what are some good tips in the business welcome.

Also, is this something you can do in the long run, Ie 30+ ? thats huge for me

Last question for lulz, do clients ever come on to you? Always curious about that...

got a couple buddies who are PT's. They make anywhere from 18-25 bucks an hour depending on how many clients they have at a time. Their gyms pay them more an hour if they have more clients

Charging $30 per hour for personal training is a ridiculous price? U wot m8? That is ridiculously cheap, especially considering the gym takes a huge cut of that. My rate is $66/hr (but again, gym takes a nice cut of that) and people will pay for it because it's worth it to them. It's an investment. Half the people on this forum have no problem dropping 20, 30, 40k+ on a car but for people who don't know how to be healthy, spending 10 or 20k on competent personal training over the course of a couple years is invaluable and will literally change their life. You can't enjoy the other things in life if you don't even have your health.

OP, goodlife has different "levels" of trainers which basically just means higher level trainer = higher pay. You start off at $20/hr and can move up to $42/hr plus commissions and bonuses. You can make legit money in PT, but it is ridiculous amount of time investment to get your clientele up. The top trainer at goodlife last year made over 100k... it is possible. You want a more realistic picture though? Picture yourself prospecting for clients on the gym floor for 6-10 hours per day for ZERO pay. Maybe within a few months you'll have a couple clients and will be making that $20/hr for 2-3 hours per day and then working another 5-6 hours on top of that for zero pay. Being a trainer at goodlife comes down to it being 80% sales and 20% being a good trainer. Kind of depressing but that's the reality of it, and although it is possible to make bank, it is far more likely you'll be busting your ass for pennies while you chase after a few big sales. Thus why the turnover rate in PT is so ridiculously high. Hours are unstable, income is unstable, the base starting hourly wage is enticing and people are deceived into thinking its easy money.

This. If you are passionate and knowledgeable about fitness it will NOT make you succeed as a trainer. However, if you are passionate about sales you will succeed as a trainer even if you know little about training. Dem jimmies be rustlin' yet?

Yes there are quite a few trainers in their 30s... Only one past 40 though. Definitely not a job for the middle aged. Also there is no RRSP, bare minimum 2 weeks vacation pay no matter how long you work there, and benefits that you'll likely never qualify for, and if you do they'll be taken away as soon as you lose a couple clients and your hours drop too low. Definitely not something you could rely on for your family's healthcare needs. Basically, PT at a commercial gym is not a viable career, but more like a decent transitional job where you can make a nice hourly wage while gaining experience to open your own PT studio or transition into something more stable and long-term oriented.
