thanks! only thing to do with a 6'3 frame is to keep working towards filling it out....might not be ideal for bodybuilding, but it sure as heck isn't impossible! Worst case scenario is that it only leads to men's fitness/physique
As in how long have I been training? I've been lifting for about 5 years now, however I have only gotten into the whole lifestyle/diet/contest training in the last 1 1/2 years. I've gone from 150 lbs to 205 lbs (off-season) in that timePersonal Trainer and WBFF Pro Classic Physique

First off, we'll done OP this is incredible mirin'. Gives me heaps of motivation to see progress like this. If I could I'd like to ask a few questions to do with how you've made your progress. A bit about me, I'm 6ft 1, 175lbs and been training seriously for about 4-5 months now. My goals are pretty much pretty much your current achievements lol and I want to know how you got to it. Everyone around here seems to preach 3x week full body training. When you started off what sort of routines did you use? Did you change often? I guess I just don't want to waste time doing routines that arnt specific to my goals. And I'm asking you because as I said I want to head along the same track thanks.

Hah thanks! I don't consider my height to be a disadvantage or an excuse, rather something to work towards and fill out. I do sometimes wish I was a compressed marshmallow version of myself for bodybuilding because I agree, proportionally I think I would probably be more impressive. However the height gives me the ability to play sports.
As I said before I'm just going to keep working hard to fill my frame out and look even better I'm still a young'un I got time
Anyone can compete if they take the time to do prep and everything seriously! While results may not be the same for everyone I encourage people to commit to trying it out and giving it a chance. Once you compete you'll know if it's for you or not and then can go from there. There is no embarrasment in doing a strict competition diet/training and getting up on the stage no matter what you look like (in my opinion).
As far as the category goes for fitness, judging differs depending largely on the judges that are present, what the market determines, and your stage presence. A large part of of men's physique/fitness is on confidence and stage presence. They are looking for someone who is comfortable with being the centre of attention and that will be marketable! This is why sometimes the results can vary as to body type and overall look etc.
End advice: give it a shot you have nothing to lose!Personal Trainer and WBFF Pro Classic Physique

Time, consistency, and proper nutrition by far have been the most important parts of making progress. When I started off to be honest everything was terrible. I had no idea what I was doing, knew very little about workout programs and nutrition etc. I was that really thin kid who just went in and lifted weights!
Once I got past that stage and took the time to learn about lifting routines, methodology etc, things went better.
Each person is slightly different and so what kind of program one person does (i.e. full body routine) may differ from another person. If you are just starting to lift weights your #1 priority should be on building a strength and power base with which to work with. This will aid a long ways in preventing injury, and allow you to properly perform exercises. Of course, this is just personal opinion.
I followed an upper/lower body split 2x a week for quite some time and found that it gave me a good basis of strength for lifting as well as some overall size. Now I constantly change routines every 6-8 weeks in order to keep my body from adapting, and I follow different lifting splits depending on the time of season I am in (competition, offseason, or sports).
By far the MOST important thing to learn is nutrition and how it impacts your ability to grow (and to cut)! While exercise is great, nourishing the body and providing it with the proper energy and fuel for growth is equally as important! Results will come much faster if your diet and nutrition is in check.
Finding a lifting routine that gives you good results is somewhat trial and error because each person is so vastly different. I encourage you to take a look into adequate nutrition, perhaps sit down and talk with a nutritionist, and then experiment with some different routines that may lead towards your goal. Unfortunately it will take some time to see results so as I said at the beginning, time and perseverance are a must! I did not see a whole pile of results for the first year or so past my strength gains.
Best of luck!
thanks fellow misc'ers!Personal Trainer and WBFF Pro Classic Physique

I really can't say which one you would be better suited for as it is totally dependant on the judging. However in general, physique features a more top-heavy physique and will have better conditioning then either fitness/model.
Fitness will be somewhere in the middle in terms of size/conditioning as they are usually looking for someone who fits the defined/athletic build but is NOT ripped like a bodybuilder.
Model search looks for a toned and athletic person with a decent amount of cuts but focuses more on marketability, the facial features, and the overall look of the individual as opposed to their body or muscularity.
Again, those are just generalizations so no 100% answer! If you feel like your quads are one of your strong points and would like to show them off, fitness might be a good place to go. Check into the specific show though, sometimes they let you enter multiple categories, so maybe consider that!
ahhhh the whiskey and coke--fatal enemy!! haha
I train abs just as I train any other bodypart, with weight and hypertrophy. I train them on the same day I train calves and traps.
My favorite ab exercises are hanging leg raises, russian med ball twists, reverse abdominal crunches, and weighted sit ups!!Personal Trainer and WBFF Pro Classic Physique
